■ If you see the commercial, please try singing along. (Masaki Suda)
Yamato Transport’s new commercials starring Suda Masaki, “Carbon Neutral Delivery for Home Delivery: Kindness,” “Carbon Neutral Delivery for Home Delivery: Serious,” and “Carbon Neutral Delivery for Home Delivery: The New Common Sense,” began airing nationwide on June 5th, Environment Day.
In this commercial, Suda was appointed as the CM character to let many people know that Takkyubin has become a carbon-neutral delivery. There are three types of commercials that express “Takkyubin has become a friendly delivery,” “We are serious about carbon-neutral delivery,” and “Yamato Transport is creating a new common sense.” These express the Yamato Group’s intention to accelerate its efforts to reduce its own GHG emissions to mitigate climate change, and to contribute to the realization of a sustainable society by maintaining carbon neutrality until 2050.
In the commercial, the familiar sound logo “Kuroneko Yamato’s Takkyubin” from home delivery-related commercials is revived for the first time in about 15 years. Suda sings the carbon-neutral delivery version of “Kuroneko Yamato’s Takkyubin” in his gentle voice.
■ Filming episodes
Suda’s filming started with the scene where he sang the sound logo. The staff was riveted by his appearance singing with headphones on his ears and various expressions on his face. Even in the filming of other scenes, he often got the OK from the director on the first take, and the filming proceeded smoothly.
In between takes, he even did some boxing jabs, which he also does in his private time, and it was impressive to see how relaxed he remained throughout the shoot.
■ Interview with Masaki Suda
Q. Please tell us your thoughts after finishing filming. Also, please tell us what you would like us to pay attention to.
Although it had a surreal feel to it, it was fun to be able to do it in a natural way. Also, I think the surprise and joy of singing the sound logo came naturally.Q. During this shoot, you sang the sound logo that everyone has heard of, but how did it feel to actually sing it?
I wondered if it would be okay to use my own voice. I was a little nervous because the original sound logo is so famous and has stuck in everyone’s ears and in my ears, but it was fun.Q. Did you know about the carbon-neutral delivery service practiced by Yamato Transport? Please tell us your impressions when you actually received the explanation.
(About carbon-neutral delivery) I didn’t know that. I learned what it meant after hearing an explanation. I thought it was a wonderful idea to have such awareness, because I think that small actions, accumulated over many years, can make a big difference. I have a friend who is thinking about what can be done using carbon dioxide, rather than just reducing carbon dioxide emissions, and I’ve always heard him talk about it, so I was happy to be involved in something like that, and I’m glad that he asked me again this time.Q. Do you use Takkyubin services on a regular basis? Please tell us in what situations and at what times you use it.
Sometimes I buy small things I forgot to buy online, or I send packages to family members or grandparents who I can’t see right away when I’m traveling.Q. Yamato Transport plans to continue this initiative until 2050. Mr. Sugata,Is there anything you want to continue doing until 2050? Also, do you have an ideal image of what you would like things to be like in 2050?
I want to continue acting, and regardless of acting, I would like to do something that contributes to society, not just by playing, but also through music. I think theater and movies are one example of that. Also, I’ve been cooking recently. I want to continue cooking. I’ve been filleting fish a lot lately, and I want to get better at it. I’ve been given delicious fish, and I order it by courier, but if I don’t fillet it nicely, it’s a waste, so I want to get better at it. I think I’ve gotten pretty good after 26 years.Q. June 5th, the day the commercial is released, is Environment Day.Mr. Suda, is there anything you do or keep in mind in your daily life with future generations in mind?
I am always conscious of making things that are meaningful and that I would not be ashamed to leave behind for my children and the next generation. In my private life, I suddenly thought about this recently, but I like secondhand clothes. In a way, that is also a part of sustainability. I always have trouble with what to do with things that I no longer wear. I sometimes regret buying more than I needed, and instead of simply throwing things away, I think it would be better to give them to juniors or people who will wear them, or to wear them for a long time.Q. Finally, please give a message to everyone who will watch the commercial.
In this commercial, we sing the familiar phrase in a “carbon neutral delivery” version. We hope this phrase will become more widely known. If you see the commercial, please try singing along. So, enjoy the new commercial!
