An "experiential exhibition" will be held to look back on Perfume's 25-year history and miracles. Members' comment videos released

Perfume is celebrating its 25th anniversary since its formation, and an exhibition called “Perfume Disco-Graphy 25 Years of History and Miracles” celebrating the “miraculous synchronization” created by the combination of physicality and technology has been scheduled to run from August 9th to October 14th at TOKYO NODE GALLERY in Toranomon Hills, Tokyo.

In the summer of 2024, TOKYO NODE, an information hub named after the “node” where various fields converge, will hold an exhibition featuring Perfume, an artist who has continued to be at the forefront of “physicality” x “technology” expression and will celebrate their 25th anniversary this September.

Perfume’s live performances have been ahead of their time with a variety of cutting-edge technology and stage direction. The premise for the performance is the high level of physicality of the members, who are able to perfectly synchronize their body movements with the controlled direction. This exhibition is themed on the “miraculous synchronization” that is born from the honing of their incredible “physicality” and the “technology” of the creators who support the performance, and is an experiential exhibition that recreates the challenges of expression and the various stages that Perfume has created.

The exhibition is supervised by MIKIKO, who choreographs and directs Perfume’s live performances, and is supported by members of “Team Perfume” who have been involved with them for many years, such as Manabe Daito and creative collective Rhizomatiks, who are in charge of installations, and will unravel the group’s 25-year journey from both the onstage and behind the scenes perspectives.

During the exhibition, there will be a number of special contents to make the exhibition even more enjoyable. A pop-up shop will be set up in the museum selling original goods exclusive to this exhibition, and the restaurant and cafe in TOKYO NODE will serve a collaborative menu supervised by Perfume members. In addition, a DJ event will be held in the exhibition room, turning it into a disco venue, in honor of Perfume’s signature song “Chocolate Disco.”

Tickets will go on sale from July 2nd. Details of each special content will be announced later on the exhibition’s special page.

■Highlights of the exhibition “Perfume Disco-Graphy”
1. Unraveling Perfume’s 25-year journey. An exhibition space of overwhelming scale
This will be the first time that Perfume has held a retrospective covering their history from their formation to the present in three galleries at TOKYO NODE, covering a total area of over 1,500 square meters. This will be an unprecedented exhibition that looks back on the 25 years that this rare artist has walked.

2. The “miraculous synchronization” of physicality and technology. Number of experiential archive exhibits
Various “synchronizations” that are the theme of this exhibition, such as “synchronization of lyrics and choreography,” “synchronization of the three bodies,” “synchronization of physical expression and performance,” “synchronization with fans,” and “synchronization with the times,” are reproduced in the gallery, which stretches over a total length of approximately 60 meters. Fans can relive legendary live performances of the past right before their eyes, while those who have never seen a live performance or are unfamiliar with Perfume’s songs can feel the amazing synchronization between humans and technology through the simulated experience of the performance.

3. Special content exclusive to this exhibition that can only be seen at TOKYO NODE
Throughout the exhibition, there will be photo spots where visuals from Perfume’s music videos are recreated. A huge timeline looking back over the past 25 years has also been created, and behind-the-scenes stories and treasured collections that can only be seen on this occasion will be on display. In addition, there will be a DJ event on weekend nights, turning the exhibition room into a disco venue, a pop-up shop selling original goods, a collaborative menu overseen by the members, and many other contents that will make the exhibition even more enjoyable.

We have decided to hold an exhibition, “Perfume Disco-Graphy”, that looks back on 25 years of Perfume! This exhibition will show the history of Perfume since the formation of the group, and the trajectory of our live performances, all at once. As our live performances have evolved, we have also experienced the evolution of technology. When the unknown experimental “challenge between humans and technology” is perfectly matched with each person’s efforts and power of belief, the thrilling elation is addictive.
