SEVENTEEN's special unit BSS releases MV and Q&A comments for new song "CBZ (Prime time)"

SEVENTEEN’s special unit BSS (SEUNGKWAN, DK, HOSHI) released their 2nd single “TELEPARTY” on January 8th (released in Japan on January 17th). The music video for the title song “CBZ (Prime time)” was also released.

The theme of the single is “a party where we connect telepathically with everyone in the world,” and it contains BSS’s cheer for modern people who are tired of their harsh daily lives and have forgotten their youth.

The music video for “CBZ (Prime time)” depicts the activities of BSS, a “happiness maker” who guides men and women of all ages to youth. BSS appears in busy offices, tired classrooms, living rooms with noisy voices, and other places where youth is restrained and reverses the atmosphere by handing out jeans. Their unique cheerful energy, combined with their addictive music and witty parodies, encourages repeat play.

The gorgeous cameo appearance also catches the eye. First, singer and actor Uhm Jung Hwa, who presented SEVENTEEN with their first grand prize trophy at the 2023 MAMA Awards, appeared. Actors Jung Young-joo and Kal So-won become a mother and daughter who quarrel over jeans, and actor Moon Sang-hoon uses the concept of the popular segment “Mr. Moon” on the YouTube channel “빠더너스” to keep viewers entertained.

“CBZ (Prime time)” is a song that interprets the sounds of swing jazz and country bass with colors unique to BSS. The song’s title is an abbreviation for “Youth is Right Now,” and it conveys the message that “If you’re happy now, everyone is young, regardless of age.”

The new single includes a total of three songs, including “CBZ (Prime time),” “Happy Alone,” which is in the new jack swing genre, and “Love Song,” which is reminiscent of 2000s R&B. SEVENTEEN’s hit makers WOOZI and BUMZU participated in writing and composing all songs, and three members of BSS also wrote the lyrics.

Q: How do you feel about making a comeback as BSS for the first time in about two years?
HOSHI:I’m happy to be able to meet everyone from CARAT (fandom name) and the general public again. With our positive energy, we want to give even a little bit of strength to your tired daily life.
DK:We received a lot of love for our last promotional song “Fighting (Feat. Lee Young Ji).” I prepared for my comeback with the desire to repay that love even a little. We will do our best to convey our unique energy through our new works.
Q: All three of you participated in writing the lyrics for all the songs this time as well. What part of the process did you pay the most attention to?
SEUNGKWAN:I had a strong desire to deliver music with a different atmosphere than “SECOND WIND.” We took on various challenges while maintaining the energy that BSS has. I chose the best 3 songs from them. I think we were able to create a richer album than the previous one. I felt that the voices of the members were even more harmonious. We tried to show off our energetic power while incorporating a more sophisticated and artistic side.
Q: There is a gorgeous cameo in the music video for the title song “CBZ (Prime time)”, but what about the episode during filming?
DK:First of all, I would like to thank the many people who appeared in the music video for “CBZ (Prime time)”. Our music video shined thanks to the participation of people who are doing great things in their respective fields. I took a photo shoot with actor Moon Sang-hoon, and I was impressed by his wonderful acting. It was strange to meet someone I had watched on YouTube in person, and he was a friendly and kind person.
SEUNGKWAN:From the time of the MV meeting for “CBZ (Prime time)”, we imagined and planned to pay homage to Uhm Jung Hwa’s senior presenter at “2023 MAMA AWARDS”. I was very happy that my senior was willing to take on the role. In fact, I was filled with gratitude when my seniors said to me, “Thank you for inviting me.” As a veteran senior, he took pictures perfectly and I learned a lot from him.
Q: If you had to choose your “beloved song” from “TELEPARTY”, what would it be?
HOSHI：I really like “Love Song”. I can feel the atmosphere of the R&B that I listened to when I was young. You could call it a sensibility from the era of mini homepages (lol). I think you can feel that kind of nostalgia when you listen to this song.
SEUNGKWAN:I would like to recommend “Happy Alone”. This is the first time BSS has attempted the New Jack Swing genre. This is a song that tells you how to enjoy happiness even if you are alone. It’s also perfect for listening to while driving.
Q: What are the reactions of SEVENTEEN members to “TELEPARTY”?
DK:When we played this album to the SEVENTEEN members in advance, they really liked it. In particular, I would like to take this opportunity to once again express my gratitude to WOOZI for helping me create the song so enthusiastically. I’m looking forward to a “shout out” from SEVENTEEN members again this time (lol).
SEUNGKWAN:Actually, I prepared for “TELEPARTY” during my busy schedule including touring. The members encouraged me a lot. Thanks to that, I was able to prepare well for my comeback. After listening to the album, I was happy to receive so many compliments such as “It’s just like BSS” and “It’s fun and makes you feel good.”
Q: What does “youth” mean to BSS?
DK:Youth is now for BSS! “CBZ”! If I had to pick a moment that I personally feel like I’m young, I’d like to pick this moment when I’m with the members. Every time I stand on stage in front of CARAT as SEVENTEEN and feel the love I receive, I feel like I am living a wonderful youth.
HOSHI：As I spend each day doing what I want to do and what I dream of, I feel a lot of gratitude. At the same time, I think, “This moment is my youth.”
Q: What words would you like to convey to everyone who will soon be joining “TELEPARTY”?
HOSHI：Everyone is young if they can enjoy the present. We at BSS will always support your youth. I would be happy if you could gain some strength through this album.
DK:The album is filled with wonderful songs, including the title song “CBZ (Prime time),” which is packed full of youth. We want to be a BSS that always supports your youth. I will do my best in this activity, so please look forward to it.
