When I first saw Osamu Tezuka’s picture on the cover of the proposal, I thought it would be such an honor to be allowed to enter this world, and I would be so happy if I could play the role.
Then, when I read the original story, it seemed like a complicated story at first glance, but I felt that it was a very simple and consistent theme of love. The character I play, Shogo Chikaishi, is a young man who rejects love. Also, once we know true love, we are burdened with the burden of moving to a different world than the one we are in at the time.
It was a very difficult government job, but together with Akari Takaishi, who co-starred with me, I was able to play the role while looking at what human love is. In this drama, we will deliver a modern interpretation version with the cooperation of Tezuka Productions. The theme of this work is very simple, but thanks to Mr. Tezuka’s original worldview and Director Ninomiya’s perspective on modern times, this work allows you to rediscover what love is. When I read the original story, the love that Tezuka depicts seemed distorted, but at the same time felt very pure. Director Ninomiya wrote the script to convey the essence of the character in an easy-to-understand manner, and as I played the many roles, I decided to value the pure feelings that exist in each role the most.
I feel like I was able to continue taking on challenges in places that were beyond my scope because Director Ninomiya took the ideas I brought and thought they were interesting. Through this work, love takes on many different forms, and each person expresses it differently, whether it’s with family, friends, or lovers. However, I learned that although the form is different, the same love is certainly there.
I think this work would not have been possible if even one person was missing. I’m glad I came across this work.
