Choi Ji-woo’s comeback film, “Gonjiam,” starring SHINee’s Minho, has released stills with a disturbing atmosphere

■Minho (SHINee) plays a lonely college student who seeks connection

Choi Ji-woo’s first big screen appearance in seven years, the film “New Normal,” which stars Minho (SHINee) and PO (Block B) among other star-studded cast members, will be released nationwide on August 16th at Shinjuku Piccadilly and other theaters. Stills have now been released.

This is an experiential thriller in which strange intertwining destinies turn everyday life upside down and create unpredictable events. It is the latest work by director Jeong Beom-sik, whose previous film “Gonjiam” was a huge hit in Korea.

In Seoul, a series of serial murders targeting only women has been occurring frequently, making headlines. One day, Hyun-jung (Choi Ji-woo), who lives alone in an apartment, is visited by a middle-aged man who says he has come to inspect the fire alarm. Hyun-jung feels uneasy when the suspicious man brazenly enters her house. Meanwhile, Hyun-soo (Lee Yoo-mi) is meeting up with someone she matched with on a dating app. However, an unexpected person shows up. The two intersecting events lead to an unexpected outcome.

Choi Ji-woo, one of Korea’s leading actresses, has been loved as a top Korean Wave star through dramas such as “Winter Sonata” and “Stairway to Heaven,” and has contributed greatly to the Korean Wave boom. In this film, she takes on the role of Hyun-jung, a woman who cannot laugh, and shows a new side of herself, hiding an unexpected energy within her previously cold and icy image.

Lee Yoo-mi, who rose to global stardom with her Netflix series “Squid Game” and “Our School Now…”, plays Hyun-soo, an ordinary woman in her 20s who desires human connections, and delivers a realistic and energetic performance.

Additionally, SHINee member Choi Min-ho transforms into “Hun,” a lonely college student looking for connection, demonstrating his multifaceted acting skills that straddle the line between romance and suspense thriller.

This is Block B member PO’s screen debut. He plays a young man in his twenties, Gijin, who becomes so engrossed in romance that he turns into a stalker, and shows off his strong character. Other promising newcomers, such as Ha Da-in and Jung Dong-won, join the cast, bringing together a stellar cast.

The stills released this time include the scene of “Hyunjung” played by Choi Ji-woo, a woman who cannot laugh, sitting in a daze in a dimly lit room, “Hyunsu” played by Lee Yoo-mi, frightened as a knife is thrust in front of her, and “Hun”, a lonely university student played by Choi Min-ho, staring at something. In addition, there are stills with a somewhat unsettling atmosphere, such as Young-jin (Ha Da-in) desperately running away from a man being chased, and Seung-jin (Jung Dong-won) with a surprised expression after witnessing something. Expectations are high for what kind of story will unfold as these characters interact.
