■Travis Japan Kaito Miyachika x Wakana Aoi “Honnou Switch” official interview released!
TV Asahi’s Oshidora Saturday “Honnou Switch” stars Kaito Miyachika (Travis Japan) and Wakana Aoi. Ahead of the broadcast of the third episode on January 25th, an official interview with the two leads was released.
This work is based on the comic of the same name by KUJIRA, which has sold over 780,000 copies (paper and electronic), and is a story about Sei Akiyama, played by Kaito Miyachika (Travis Japan), and Kowa Hoshi, played by Wakana Aoi, whose parents’ homes are next door to each other. A pure love story woven by two childhood friends.
In the second episode, Sei Akiyama (Miyachika) and Kowa Hoshi (Aoi), who have finally broken away from being childhood friends and gradually become lovers, attend their junior high school reunion. Then, Hijiri’s ex-girlfriend Kaede Saito (Koi Ishikawa) appears. Moreover, Kaede is connected to Kowa’s ex-girlfriend, Sosuke Yoshida (Junki Totsuka)…!
This fact caused an uproar on social media with comments such as “What, are they connected?!”, “I have a feeling it’s going to be a mess,” “Scary!,” and “Don’t get in my way of my ex-girlfriend~” and it became a trending topic. It was a big shock to the people who had been soothed by the couple Hijiri and Kowa, saying, “I can’t help but see how cute Hijiri looks at Kowa with love,” and “He’s been exposed to too much lethal doses.” It became.
In addition, episodes 1 and 2 are currently being distributed for free on TVer.

◇What did Miyachika say was “an important scene where the two stepped up as lovers”?
After the broadcast of episodes 1 and 2, Miyachika and Aoi talked about their most memorable scenes and the changes they felt as filming progressed, their relationship changing from childhood friends to lovers. They answered that they remember the awkwardness and feeling of being nervous inside.
Furthermore, as the two play the role of two people whose bond deepens, what does Miyachika and Aoi themselves begin to change…?
Q. Up to the second episode has been aired, but is there a scene that left an impression on you or that you would like to see over and over again?
Miyachika: After all, it’s the “seiza discussion” in episode 2. Kowa was able to look Hijiri in the eye when they were childhood friends, but as soon as they met Hijiri as lovers, he became extremely shy… Up until now, they had been able to be together normally, but now they are starting to become conscious of it, and while they are still new to being lovers, the two of them express their concerns to each other and decide to face each other face-to-face…as lovers and couples. It felt like a step up, so it really left an impression on me, and I think it’s an important scene for Honnou Switch as well. I loved the wacha-wacha feeling at the end, and the fact that it took place in a special place for me, the Holy House, also left an impression on me!
Aoi:I like episode 1 because so many things happened and there are many important scenes from the original work. I think the feeling of being confused about whether or not your feelings are conveyed is cute, and I think it’s also real. Also, I felt that I could really understand the two characters’ personalities, Hijiri-like and Owa-like, and I thought it would be interesting to actually watch it. That’s why the highlights of episode 1 are all there! (lol)
A new character named Kaede-san (Koi Ishikawa) also appeared in the second episode. I feel like Hijiri and Kowa haven’t shaken things up yet, but after episode 3…I feel like there’s going to be more turmoil.Q. Have there been any changes in your feelings or acting compared to when you first started working?
Miyachika: I think the lines changed a little as filming progressed. I think there are various developments, such as some characters changing little by little depending on the work, and as the story progresses, the person remains the same but the environment changes. Hijiri’s words, forms of kindness, and expressions of affection change as his relationship with Kowa changes. The same goes for scripts, and personally I find it difficult to figure out how to express things… It’s not that big of a change, but I think it’s changing little by little.
Even on set, there’s a sense of teamwork that’s built up within me, so I feel really comfortable. It’s like they understand whatever I do. There are people who understand Kiyoshi Akiyama, played by Kaito Miyachika, so it feels like home. People might think that I’m quite a strange person, but I think once you get over that “weirdness” you’ll start to think, “You’re an amazing person!” (lol) So, if you take it one step further, maybe once the filming is over, everyone will be like, “I miss you a little bit,” or “I feel lonely.” (laughs)
Aoi:The first thing that I think hasn’t changed is the calmness of the scene, the warmth of the role, and the atmosphere. I’m really happy that there are still things that make me think, “It’s a work like this, it’s a story like this, so it has this kind of atmosphere.” During this time, I also started to empathize with Kowa’s feelings. In the beginning, there was something like an awkwardness in Kowa’s relationship with Hijiri, and I myself felt that awkwardness a lot. I was thinking about what would be great for the two of us, and was having a hard time talking with the director while filming. The affinity for this has gradually increased, and the things that Kowa values are becoming clearer than they were at the beginning, so it has become easier to do it. From here on out, the relationship between Hijiri and Kowa will continue to progress, and I think it will be realistic to see them talk about each other’s work. As the shooting progresses, I feel that my empathy is increasing, and at the same time, I feel a sense of deepening.
◇What is the situation like on set, where “a sense of home is created, with family-like conversations and atmosphere”?
After the first episode aired, the last scene caused a huge reaction on SNS. In addition to the touching scene where Hijiri and Kowa finally confirm their feelings for each other and become lovers, the scene that attracted attention was Hijiri, whose parents live next door to each other, jumped to Kowa’s side. , I named it “Balcony Jump”! It seems that the members of Travis Japan had a great reaction to this…
In addition, the mood on the set was relaxed from start to finish, and fun anecdotes between Miyachika and his co-stars, including Tsukkomi master Ken Kojima, who Miyachika says are “grateful and fun,” are also revealed.
Q. Have you received any feedback from people around you since the broadcast started?
Miyachika:After the first episode aired, the members of Travis Japan poked me at the “balcony jump” line a lot, saying things like, “That was some kind of jumping,” and “Did that actually happen?” Since everyone has been playing around with jumping, I’m thinking of jumping in front of them next time (lol). I also received a message from my mother saying, “I saw it. I’m looking forward to next week. It made me excited!” They were very happy…it was a nice reaction.
Aoi:Everyone said that it made me feel so warm and that it made me so excited. A friend of mine rewatched the second episode on his way to work, and he said, “You shouldn’t watch that on the train because it makes you smile,” which made me happy. Also, Kowa is a life-sized character, so I was happy to hear that he said, “I could empathize with his life-size character,” and “I felt very close to him.”Q. Please tell us about any memorable stories you had with your co-stars.
Miyachika: Kojiken (Ken Kojima) and I don’t have a lot of interaction on the set because we’re in a different company, but I think the relationship remains the same no matter where we go. When Kojiken is around, he gives me some kind of tsukko, so I’m really grateful and it’s fun. Also, for some reason, I hang out with Kaede (Koi Ishikawa) more often than Sosuke (Junki Totsuka). Ren Ishikawa is also older than me, but she treated me like a classmate, so I had a really fun time shooting with her. Also, in the scenes with mom and dad, it really feels like home (lol). When I acted with my parents, I felt a kind of love that was different from Kowa’s. It’s not like I was being too busy, but it made for a fun atmosphere.
And of course, the person I spend the most time with is Wakana Aoi! I thought that Aoi-san would be a very straightforward person, or rather, someone who takes the work and the role seriously as an actor, and that’s exactly what happened. But he said, “I’m often told that I’m serious.” You said, “There was a time when I didn’t like being called that, but that’s also my personality.” I’m not considered very serious, so I don’t know how you feel about it (lol), but I think it’s wonderful. However, Aoi, who is said to be such a serious person, is gradually changing. According to rumors, he has started saying strange things (lol).Q. Was that change due to Mr. Miyachika’s influence?
Miyachika:If you listen to it over and over again, you can learn English, right? That’s why I think I’m stimulating Aoi’s hearing by saying strange things all the time. I’m afraid that this will have repercussions in the future, and I’m sorry about that (lol). But I think that the fact that we are starting to resonate with each other in more personal ways is what gives us the feeling of being childhood friends. I talk when I need to talk, but I don’t have to worry about it if I don’t, which makes me feel really comfortable.Q. Now, Aoi-san, who has changed a bit, please tell us about your experiences with your co-stars!
Aoi: Well…not only Mr. Miyachika, but also the staff around him, it really felt like home. Everyone including the cameraman, lighting staff, and Mr. Miyachika had a very family-like conversation and atmosphere, and I felt that the “team power” was really strong. I enjoy spending time with my colleagues in an atmosphere that makes me feel like I would have conversations like this in a real office, such as talking about the year-end and New Year holidays and asking, “What did you do on your day off?” Masu. We get together again, saying “Happy New Year,” and since the setting is a game company, we talk about games, and that kind of feels real.
◇It’s not a love triangle, it’s a four-way relationship!? The highlights from episode 3 onwards are also amazing!
Hijiri’s ex-girlfriend, Kaede, who appeared in episode 2, and Kowa’s ex-boyfriend, Sosuke, are connected. With such a shocking development, many people can’t wait for the third episode to air, and Miyachika and Aoi are the highlights. Hijiri and Kowa’s “pure and single-minded first love” is shaken by the exciting development of a four-way relationship instead of a love triangle…!?
Q. From episode 3 onwards, there will be trials that will test the bond between Hijiri and Kowa. Please tell us the highlights.
Miyachika: I’m looking forward to seeing how Hijiri and Kowa’s love and relationship will turn out, and I think that’s the real thrill of “Honnou Switch”. I would like people to pay attention to the other characters, not just the two of them, but the environments surrounding them. For example, there was a scene at a class reunion in episode 2, and in the future, Hijiri and Kowa will continue to receive various stimulations as they interact with different places and people, such as their workplace, colleagues, home, and parents. I think that relationships will be built, so I think one of the highlights is that it’s a space where it’s not just the two of them. I think it will be refreshing to see a side of Hijiri that hasn’t been shown much before when he’s with people other than Kowa.
Aoi: Sosuke and Kaede seem to tower over Hijiri and Kowa as ex-boyfriends and ex-girlfriends, but they both have a humanity to them. Of course, I think they have strong characters, but they’re both strong and weak… They’re a little different from the “love rival characters” in the romance manga I’ve read so far. They have a real warmth as people, and there are many things I can’t say yet, but I quite like the way they feel. From Kowa’s perspective, I have a strong feeling of “What the heck!”, but when I watched it as a viewer, there were many parts where I thought, “Those two are also surprisingly interesting,” so I also think about that. I want you to pay attention to it.
From now on, new characters will continue to appear, such as the parents in the home scene and Enomoto-kun played by Ken Kojima in the work scene, and the story will become even more exciting. It’s going to get more and more lively, so please look forward to it!
■Episode 3 synopsis

Even though it was supposed to be their first meeting, Hijiri and Kowa are confused by Sosuke and Kaede, who seem to hit it off.
