HYDE, New School Leaders, Matsushita Kohei and others appear! ABEMA's live broadcast of "Metrock 2024" receives a huge response

■HYDE’s stage was flooded with excited comments such as, “It’s so amazing,” “The setlist is amazing,” and “Is it okay to watch this for free?”

The Tokyo performance of “TOKYO METROPOLITAN ROCK FESTIVAL 2024” (hereinafter “METROCK 2024”) held on May 18th and 19th was broadcast live for free exclusively on ABEMA. During the live broadcast, “#METROCK” and more than 10 related words such as the names of the artists who performed became trending topics on X, attracting a lot of attention.

In addition, the performances of each artist (※) will be available to watch for free on catch-up for a limited time until June 17th.

“METROCK 2024” is an urban music festival that began in 2013 and takes place at two venues in Tokyo and Osaka.

This year marks the 12th year of the event, and along with artists who have previously entertained at Metrock, such as Creepy Nuts, (Alexandros), NEWS, WEST., Ryokuoushoku Shakai, Saucy Dog, Frederic, Kyuso Nekokami, and others, popular artists such as HYDE, Atarashii Gakkou no Leaders, Aina the End, Hirai Dai, Matsushita Kohei, and imase appeared for the first time, livening up the stage.

Abema broadcast the concert live according to its own schedule, and aired a special talk show in which artists such as Shigeo Takahashi of Savannah and Daisuke Toyama of Grunge delivered their live voices at the venue.

On Day 1, May 18th, we will be broadcasting live the WINDMILL FIELD stage of Atarashii Gakkou no Leaders, their first appearance at “Metrock”.

Under clear blue skies and midsummer-like weather, the audience was enthralled by the powerful and captivating performance from the very first song, and during the MC in the first half, SUZUKA asked, “It may be quite stoic to bathe your body in music in the scorching heat, but doesn’t that just show how much guts you all have?” He then shouted, “Age has nothing to do with youth! Enjoy the present!”, and the excitement in the venue rose even further.

In the ABEMA comment section, many viewers were shocked, saying things like, “It was so cool!” and “It was really worth watching!”

The live broadcast also included the performance of the popular three-piece band, Shintenchi Kaibyaku Shudan Zigzag, at the Seaside Park stage. The band calls their live performances “purification” and their audience “worshippers”, and is known for their unique worldview. During the first song, “Fukushu wa Seigi”, Inochi (Vo, Gu) called out to the packed house of worshippers, “Metrock Tokyo, sorry to keep you waiting! Let’s get excited and have fun!”, instantly raising the excitement in the venue.

The fifth song, “Eejanaika,” also had an enthusiastic reaction from the worshippers, and the ABEMA comment section was filled with comments such as “Seriously the best” and “This is too much fun lol,” expressing their fascination with the united stage performance that is unique to Shintenchi Kaibyaku Shudan Zigzag.

Three members of ZigZag – the True Heaven and Earth Creation Group – also appeared in a special talk corner delivered during the live broadcast.

At the Osaka performance of “Metrock 2024” held on May 12th, Inochi made a surprise appearance on stage with HYDE, whom she has named as someone she admires, and sang the L’Arc~en~Ciel classic “HONEY” together with HYDE, which became a hot topic. When MC Savannah Takahashi asked her, “Your eyes are hidden by your bangs, but I think you were getting a little hot,” Inochi replied, “No, I can’t do this anymore…”

Ryuya (bass), who was watching from the wings of the stage, said, “I was so moved I nearly cried,” and Kagemaru (drums) also said, “I was almost crying,” revealing how deeply moved they were by the dreamlike time they experienced.

On Day 2, May 19th, Matsushita Kohei’s first appearance at “Metrock” will be broadcast live.

After performing the first song, “Way You Are,” she said in her MC, “I’ve prepared a lot of songs that you can all dance to and sing along to, so you don’t have to know them, but I think you’ll have a lot of fun just moving along to the rhythm and waving your hands.” She then performed three up-tempo songs in a row, “MUSIC WONDER,” “Hyoryuu,” and “FLYFLY.”

She then performed the ballad “Thinking of You,” which sings about the fluctuating emotions of unrequited love, enveloping the venue with her gentle yet powerful singing voice.

Viewers were flooded with comments such as, “It makes me want to go to a live show,” “It was my first time watching it, but it was amazing!” and “It was fun!” ABEMA is currently streaming all songs from the 30-minute stage for free.

Then, at 6pm, HYDE appeared on the WINDMILL FIELD stage, making his first appearance at the “METROCK 2024” Osaka concert on May 12th. HYDE appeared at the top of a tall tower-like set on the stage and performed two songs in a row, “UNDERWORLD” and “MAD QUALIA”. As the excitement in the venue continued to rise, he got off the stage and sang the fifth song, “HONEY”, in front of the fans who filled the venue.

When HYDE turned the microphone over to the audience, they all started singing along loudly, creating an overwhelming sense of unity, and ABEMA viewers couldn’t help but comment, “It was amazing” and “I got goosebumps.”

HYDE then performed “6or9” and “GLAMOROUS SKY,” putting on a stunning performance until the very end, receiving numerous excited comments such as “This is so amazing,” “The setlist is amazing,” and “Is it okay to watch this for free?”

HYDE also appeared in a special talk corner delivered during the live broadcast, and talked about various things, such as his recent first experiences and looking back on his stage with -Shintenchi Kaibyaku Shudan- Zigzag Inochi. This corner is also available for free catch-up streaming.

During the broadcast, “#Metrock” was ranked second on the Japanese trending list on X. The names of artists appearing in “Metrock 2024” also ranked in the trending list one after another, and the event ended with great success.
