A 90-second movie trailer using the new song “Garakuta” written by Kenshi Yonezu as the theme song for the movie “The Last Mile” has been released. A part of “Garakuta” has been released for the first time.
In this trailer, the relationships between the characters, including the protagonist Elena (Mitsushima Hikari) and team manager Ko (Okada Masaki), which had previously been shrouded in mystery, gradually become clearer, and the video also gives a glimpse into the story.
The theme song “Garakata” (Junk), which resonates as if supporting the characters as they rush to solve the case, leaves a strong impression with its sad yet powerful lyrics and heart-wrenching melody.
The movie “The Last Mile” is a completely original film that takes place in the same world (shared universe) as the TV dramas “Unnatural” (2018) and “MIU404” (2020).
The director of this work is Ayuko Tsukahara, who has directed many classic dramas such as “Unnatural”, “MIU404”, and “Saiai” (2021), and continues to capture the hearts of viewers with her careful and bold direction. The screenplay is by Akiko Nogi, who won the 44th Japan Academy Award for Best Screenplay for “Unnatural”, “MIU404”, “Fence” (2023), and the movie “Voice of Sin” (2020).
This non-stop suspense entertainment stars Mitsushima Hikari as Funato Erena, the director of the Kanto center of a shopping site, and Okada Masaki as Nashimoto Akira, as they confront a series of bombings that begin on the eve of Black Friday in November. In addition to talented cast members such as Abe Sadao, the series also features 16 actors in total, including members of the “UDI Lab” from “Unnatural” including Ishihara Satomi, and members of the “4th Mobile Investigation Unit” including Ayano Go and Hoshino Gen from “MIU404”.
The film “The Last Mile” will be released on August 23rd. The release date for the theme song “Garakurakuta” has yet to be decided.

This time, I have written a song called “Junk” as the theme song for the movie “The Last Mile.”
This is my third time participating in a work by Tsukahara-san, Nogi-san, and Arai-san, following “Unnatural” and “MIU404,” so I feel very honored.
The song “Junk” was written with the idea that it’s okay to be broken.
When I think about it and apply it to the movie, it’s somewhat based on my own experiences, so at first glance it might be hard to see the similarities, but I feel like I packed in all the important feelings for the movie and that’s how the song came about.
“The Last Mile” is a breathless, fast-paced, thrilling movie that is really cool. To put it simply, I think it’s a cool and interesting movie.
Both “MIU404” and “Unnatural” are truly wonderful works, but I felt that “The Last Mile” was just as wonderful as them. I am truly honored to have been involved in these three works.■Comments from the production team

The finished song, “Garakata,” is a very emotional, passionate song that really pierces your heart.
