Mrs. GREEN APPLE makes their first appearance on “Sanma no Manma”! They talk about the story behind the creation of their signature song “Que Sera Sera”

■ “I was sandwiched between two legends, Sanma and Naoko Ken (laughs)” (Kouto Wakai), “What kind of lineup is that?” (Motoki Omori)

Mrs. GREEN APPLE will be making their first appearance on “Sanma no Manma 40th Anniversary Summer Begins SP,” which will be broadcast nationwide on the Kansai TV and Fuji TV networks from 9:00 p.m. on June 28th.

Mrs. GREEN APPLE does not appear on many variety shows, but since the two are friends with fellow guest Naohko Ken, it was decided that they would appear on “Sanma no Manma.”

When Sanma asked, “What is the connection?” Ken explained, “They are very good kids.” The atmosphere was very lively, as the story behind the birth of the song “Que Sera Sera,” which won the Japan Record Award in 2023, was told. Sanma seemed to have mistakenly thought that “Que Sera Sera” was a cover of a 1950s Doris Day song, but he tried singing the chorus of Mrs.’s “Que Sera Sera” many times, and had a great exchange of “Que Sera Sera” with Motoki Omori (Vo & Gu).

Ken thinks that Omori has a four-octave range, but when Omori confesses that he can’t write music, Sanma is surprised. He asks him how he writes songs.

The surprising true selves of the three were revealed, including Wakai Hiroto (Gu), who praised Sanma by saying, “There are tons of people who want to be like you if they were reborn,” but then made a sharp retort, making Sanma gasp, “Who trained you?”, and Fujisawa Suzuka (Key), who was described by Sanma as “like a fluffy egg on top of an omelet rice.”

Also, look forward to a rare glimpse into Mrs., including their songwriting process and the origins of the group’s name, which they came up with when they were in high school.

■Mrs. GREEN APPLE Comment
Q. What are your thoughts about your first appearance?

Omori: I was nervous, but it was fun. I tried not to prepare in advance as much as possible. I thought that if I did, I would get even more nervous. I felt reassured because Naoko Ken was there.
Wakai: I’m sandwiched between two legends, Sanma and Naohko Ken (laughs).
Omori: I thought, “What kind of lineup is this?” But I was able to relax and take on the challenge.
Fujisawa: From the start of the recording until it ended, I kept thinking, “This is the real Sanma!”

Q. What would you like to do with Sanma this summer?
Wakai: I want to go skydiving with you.
Everyone: Bursts into laughter
Omori: Because you don’t want to do it, right? Wakai is really afraid of heights, and he said that if he went skydiving he might be able to overcome that fear, and he’s planning to take Sanma with him (laughs).
Wakai: I thought it would be fine if I was with Sanma-san. I’d love to go with him this summer.
Omori: Sanma-san is not that kind of person (laughs). Skydiving seems a bit tough, so let’s play tag. I want to see Sanma-san running at full speed.
Wakai: That’s pretty surreal too, but it might be rare (laughs).
Fujisawa: I want to have a summer club training camp with Sanma-san. I want to stay the night and chat.
Omori: I heard that Sanma sews in the middle of the night, so I’d love to lose track of time and sew with him.

Q. If you had to choose a song that suits you, which one would it be?
Omori: Sanma-san has an attractive and pleasant voice, so I think he’d suit anything. I only sang one bar of it jokingly, but I think it’s a voice that only Sanma-san has. But I’d like him to sing “Que Sera Sera.”
