Choi Ji-woo to appear in “Black Pean Season 2” starring Kazunari Ninomiya! Appearing in a Japanese drama for the first time in 13 years

■ “It was a lot of fun to act with Ninomiya-san, Takeuchi-san, and all the other unique actors.” (Choi Ji-woo)

It has been confirmed that Choi Ji-woo will appear in the TBS Sunday Theatre drama “Black Pean Season 2” (every Sunday from 9pm), starring Ninomiya Kazunari, which will start on July 7th.

Choi Ji-woo is one of the driving forces behind the current K-culture boom, which began in Asia and Japan with her masterpiece “Winter Sonata.” This will be her first appearance in a Japanese drama in 13 years, since her guest appearance in “Winter Sakura” (2011).

Choi Ji-woo plays Park So-hyun, a Korean doctor, hospital manager, and restaurant owner who has the ability to open restaurants overseas. As a doctor, she has been actively involved in medical volunteer work to save the poor, but she was forced by her son Min-jae (Kim Moo-jun) to visit the Gold Coast in Australia to meet Amagi, played by Ninomiya.

Choi Ji Woo filmed in Australia with Ninomiya and Takeuchi Ryoma. Keep an eye out for how she plays the key character in the first episode, and the powerful acting she shows in her dialogue with Ninomiya.

“Black Pean Season 2” is a sequel to the Sunday Theatre drama “Black Pean” starring Ninomiya, which aired in April 2018. In this work, which takes place six years after Season 1, Ninomiya plays not Tokai Seijiro, who he played in Season 1, but the devilish, world-renowned genius surgeon Amagi Yukihiko, who plays with both people and money.

Additionally, clips and stills from Season 1 are currently available on the show’s official social media accounts. All episodes are available for unlimited viewing on the “U-NEXT Paravi Corner” and “Netflix,” and are available for free on “TVer” for a limited time until 11:59 p.m. on July 11.

■ Comment from Choi Ji Woo
I will be appearing on TBS Sunday Theatre for the first time in a long while, and I am happy to have the opportunity to meet all my Japanese fans.
It was a lot of fun to act alongside Ninomiya-san, Takeuchi-san, and all the other actors with such unique personalities.
Please look forward to the drama being broadcast.

■ Producer Hidenori Iyoda’s comment:
I was excited and thrilled when I saw “Winter Sonata”. It feels like a dream to be able to work with Choi Ji Woo. This time, filming started in Australia, and Ninomiya and Takeuchi had a passionate performance in various situations on the Gold Coast. It was overwhelming. Please look forward to the first episode to find out what kind of acting they did. And I hope to have many more appearances from her.

■ Episode 1 Synopsis
Saeki Seigo (Uchino Masaaki), who became the director of Tojo University Hospital, was planning to open a new hospital specializing in cardiac surgery. His next goal is to become the president of the All Japan Medical Association.

Cardiovascular surgeon Masashi Sera (Ryoma Takeuchi) receives a letter from Saeki to attend a conference in Australia and deliver it to a doctor named Yukihiko Amagi who works at the Heart Center on the Gold Coast.

Sera, who traveled to Australia with senior doctor Yuji Kakiya (Haruka Uchimura), finds a boy who has lost consciousness on a Gold Coast beach and administers first aid. As Kakiya is puzzled by the boy’s lack of consciousness, a mysterious man appears before him. Thanks to his advice, the boy’s life is saved.

Afterwards, Sera and the others attend a conference, but are unable to meet Amagi… Disappointed, the two meet Park So-hyun (Choi Ji-woo) and her son Min-jae (Kim Moo-jung), who say they have come to Australia in search of Amagi.

Soon, they find out that Amagi is at the racetrack, and Sera, Kakiya, and Min-jae head there together, but there they find a mysterious man who looks just like Tokai Seijiro, who left Tojo University six years ago. He is none other than Amagi Yukihiko (Ninomiya Kazunari), a world-renowned genius surgeon known in the medical world as Diable (the Devil), who plays with both people and money…
