BUMP OF CHICKEN to perform theme song for new drama “Saionji-san Doesn’t Do Housework” starring Wakana Matsumoto and Hokuto Matsumura

It has been announced that BUMP OF CHICKEN will be performing the theme song for the new TBS drama “Saionji-san Doesn’t Do Housework,” which will begin airing on July 9th at 10pm.

The drama “Saionji-san Doesn’t Do Housework” is a heartwarming love comedy starring Matsumoto Wakana and Matsumura Hokuto (SixTONES). It is based on the comic of the same name by Hiura Satoru (serialized in Kodansha’s “BE・LOVE” magazine). The story explores “What is happiness? What is a family?” through the unusual cohabitation of the main character, Saionji-san (Matsumoto), who never does any housework, and the younger single father Kusumi (Matsumura) and his daughter.

The theme song that gently wraps around the story of the “fake family” that Nishizonji and his friends are spinning is a new song “strawberry” by BUMP OF CHICKEN, which was written for this series. The new song “strawberry” will be released for the first time in the first episode that will air on July 9th.

BUMP OF CHICKEN, a charismatic rock band that is celebrating its 28th year since its formation, will release its first album in five years in September. In addition, they have been captivating fans for many years with their unique presence, including a dome tour in four cities across the country. Their new song “strawberry” is one to watch.

I am very honored to have been offered the theme song for “Saionji-san Doesn’t Do Housework.” I am looking forward to seeing how the gorgeous cast will portray the various stories of the characters, including Saionji-san.

When I first heard this song, I was enveloped in a gentle embrace from the very beginning, and it sent shivers through my entire body. It was the same initial emotion I felt when I first heard BUMP OF CHICKEN’s music as a high school student. Now that they have provided us with a new song, I felt even more excited than I did then, and I shouted out in joy. And the song moved me far beyond my expectations.
It reaffirmed that this is the true essence of BUMP OF CHICKEN, transcending the lyrics, sound, and various other relatable elements, and catching your heart within the first few seconds of the first line. Not only are the lyrics exquisitely linked to the story, but the beautiful yet sad melody and the worldview of the band as a whole add color to the drama, making it a wonderful song. I would be happy if you could listen to that as well. Thank you very much.

When I was lost, when I was a little tired, BUMP OF CHICKEN’s songs have been by my side in various situations in my life so far. They have protected me, made me stronger, and given me a smack on the back. In this drama, we will face very simple but difficult questions such as “What is a family? What is happiness?” However, it is still very difficult, tough, and often troubles me. At such times, I wanted to ask for the help of BUMP OF CHICKEN, who has given me a push back so many times, so I contacted them nervously to ask if they could do the theme song. When they accepted, I was really encouraged and happy, and I thought it was good that I had worked hard up until now. And when I first heard the song, it was a warm, sad, and incredibly gentle song, and I felt like it affirmed all of my days up to this day and myself. I am really happy that this wonderful song will color the drama. I look forward to the day when I can deliver this song to the viewers along with the drama.
