Jun Tablet (49), formerly the vocalist of the mood pop group “Wada Hiroshi and the Mahina Stars” and currently active in a wide range of fields including singing, coming to life, and pop music research, also known as the “Prince of Mood Pop,” held a recital today (June 4th) at Sakura Hall in Shibuya, Tokyo.
The new song “Mother” (lyrics and composition: Kato Tokiko) was inspired by a conversation Kato had with Tablet Jun’s mother after they happened to meet. The song was released as a digital single today to coincide with the recital, and the music video has also been released.
She appeared in a seductive red dress in front of a packed house of enthusiastic fans. She greeted the audience with, “Today I’m going to sing again, this time as a singer,” and excited the crowd.
The concert was divided into two parts. The first part kicked off with Misora Hibari’s “Yawa” amid the sound of Japanese drums. This was followed by an imitation of the famous narrator from “Enka no Hanamichi”, a medley of famous songs by female enka singers such as “Ame no Boujou”, “Shinjuku no Onna” and “Ikebukuro no Yoru”, a medley of imitation of radio personalities and TV program narrators, and a performance of “Shumai Tabijou” (the commercial song for Kiyoken) with accordion-playing singer Tomine Ako as guest.
In the second part, he appeared in a costume like a medieval nobleman and sang “Nansen” and “Wakare no Samba” with pianist Miyuki Onitake as a guest. He also performed a GS Tigers medley, “Ginga ni Dakarette” (lyrics: Junko Takabatake, music: Jun Tablet), which was aired on NHK’s “Radio Midnight Flight” last year as “Midnight Flight Song” and is still a long-running hit, “Mother” released today, and “Ai wo Arigatou” (lyrics and music: Tokiko Kato), a new song that Kato provided and has not yet been recorded.
For the encore, she appeared on stage with the lace sleeves of her long silver dress unfurled, performing “Mesmerized,” and then performed “Toki no Nagare Mi o Makase” and the legendary classic “Yoru wo Makimodose” (lyrics by Yoshida Akihiro, music by Okamura Midori), released under the name of Jun Tabuchi in 2007. She sang a total of 24 songs, with a wide variety of songs selected and the vocal ability of Jun Tabuchi, who has a deep musical knowledge, ranging from famous Showa era pop songs to commercial songs and originals. She was one with the fans from start to finish, and kept the audience entertained until the very end with some hilarious conversation.

Tablet Jun Profile
Real name: Yasuyuki Hashimoto
Date of birth: August 31, 1974
Blood type: A
Zodiac sign: Virgo
He discovered old pop music through AM radio from an early age, and in his adolescence he spent his days collecting second-hand records, listening to them and immersed in studying them. After graduating from high school, he worked in a second-hand bookstore and a care worker before suddenly joining the legendary mood pop group, Wada Hiroshi and the Mahina Stars, as a vocalist under the stage name Jun Tabuchi at the age of 27. He remained with the group for the next two years until Wada Hiroshi passed away. After the group disbanded, he appeared at neo-Showa pop and subculture events at live houses in Tokyo, and in January 2011, he also began performing at vaudeville and comedy shows. He established a new genre called mood pop stand-up comedy, and is considered a heretical presence.
