Taeko Onuki concert “Peter and Friends 2024” starts!

Taeko Onuki has performed in various arrangements, such as acoustic and orchestra. Among them, “Peter and Friends” is centered on songs using synthesizers and sequencers. Since the first concert was held in Tokyo last year and was well received, the second concert will have three performances, including one in Osaka. Here is a report on the first day at Ebisu Garden Hall. The members are the same as last time, Fabian-Reza Pane (piano), Masato Suzuki (bass), Manabu Sakata (drums), Hotaru Fushimi (guitar), Shohei Amimori (keyboard), and Toshinari Matsui (sequencer).

Amimori plays a variety of synth sounds. Matsui creates a danceable beat that is the core of the band’s sound, but Fushimi’s electric guitar also plays a major role. It is rare to see Onuki’s concerts with such a lot of guitar playing these days, and the performance has a rock feel to it, which has drawn a passionate response from the audience. Many of the songs selected are arranged by Ryuichi Sakamoto, and it is especially nice that many of the famous songs from the 80s are reproduced in an arrangement that is close to the original. The songs that have been performed at recent concerts also have a different flavor when heard with this band’s arrangement. When you listen to it, your body naturally starts to sway, and Onuki smiles at the cheers of the excited audience. Onuki’s concerts tend to have a strong image of mature songs that are soft to the ears, but in this concert, Onuki’s singing voice is light and bouncy like a young girl. Onuki jokingly said, “I wanted to do this kind of concert while I’m still healthy,” but it was a very enjoyable concert that focused on the sophisticated pop of her songs. I hope this becomes a series!
