Singer Miyuki Kadomatsu (31) held a triumphant return campaign live concert in her hometown of Odawara, Kanagawa Prefecture, to commemorate the release of her sixth single, “Imo Imo Yokohama.”
Kadomatsu Miyuki made her debut in 2019 with the single “Michinoku Boukyou Uta” under Nippon Columbia Co., Ltd., and has been making waves as a talented and beautiful singer, winning her first ever appearance on TV Tokyo’s “THE Karaoke☆Battle” and being selected for the 54th Japan Lyricist Award with her single “Hana no Inochi.”
The single “Imo wa Yokohama” released on July 24th is set in Yokohama and tells the story of a woman’s regrets after being heartbroken. The composer is Shuji Kuniyasu, who also composed the previous work. He is a singer-songwriter known for his smash hit “Nee”, and has created a work that fully brings out the charm of Miyuki Kadomatsu, who is now shifting to a pop music style.
About 500 people gathered at the venue, Odawara Dynacity, including many local fans who have known Kadomatsu Miyuki for a long time. The stage was also decorated with giant lanterns with Kadomatsu Miyuki’s name written on them, made by fans, to warmly welcome the triumphant return of the local singer.
When the concert started, Kadomatsu appeared in a retro-themed miniskirt outfit and greeted the audience with, “I’m back. I’m back home. I’m so happy to be able to sing here today.” She then excited the audience with her previous song, “Ai DA・LI・DA,” and showed off her more polished singing voice than when she debuted five years ago. In reference to the title of her new song, “Imo wa Yokohama,” she further heated up the venue with a medley of songs by Yokohama native Momoe Yamaguchi, and “Tokyo Boogie Woogie,” which became a hot topic in the NHK morning drama series “Boogie Woogie.” The audience also welcomed her with cheers of, “Welcome back! We’ve been waiting for you.”
Comment from Miyuki Kadomatsu
“I met a lot of familiar faces today, and I was happy to have people from my hometown see how much I’ve grown. People often say that my name, Kadomatsu, is unusual, but everyone in my neighborhood in Odawara has the surname Kadomatsu. I hope that if I become a hit, my name will spread and I can give back to the people in my hometown. My new song, “Ima mo Yokohama” is a pop song. I’ve always loved enka, but I’m trying my hand at pop songs because I want a wide range of people to listen to it. I want more and more people to know about Kadomatsu Miyuki through this song, and in order to do that, I want to start planting the seeds of a hit here in Odawara,” she said with a smile.
