It has been announced that “Makita Sports’ Social Reform Parody Song Tour – Making a Living from the World’s Current Situation”, which will start this fall, will first be held in Hiroshima and Fukuoka.
This tour is a series that began last year, and is a live show where Makita fuses music and comedy with his own interpretation, using his sharp perspective on various aspects of society. The subtitle for this show, “Making a living from the world’s flaws,” is based on the theme of things that tend to be overlooked in the world, and according to Makita, “it’s like making a delicious dish using the ‘flaws’ that society has created.” Blurring the boundaries between music and comedy, the show is enjoyable for a wide range of people, and new performances are planned for the future.
Furthermore, the Fukuoka concert will feature the familiar TV music critic Susie Suzuki as a guest to discuss music with Makita. This stage will be an opportunity to experience the two’s live, light-hearted talk and deep insight into music, just like on their TV shows.
Makita Sports Comments
People often say to me, “I wish you’d appear on TV more.” I always say, “Yes, that’s true.” Even though I perform new material live every year and go on tours, I don’t appear on TV comedy shows or variety shows, so I’m not well known. You might say that I should just appear on TV, but comedy is very important to me, so I don’t want others to take the initiative. I also don’t like being shy.
I think Makita Sports’ comedy shows are like a “dining hall.” Or rather, I think that comedians and artists are all, more or less, essentially restaurant owners.
Television is like a food court in a large shopping mall. The performers are like shops that have stalls there. I don’t choose that. I just sell what I make with a different strategy. Fortunately, since the COVID-19 pandemic, customers have been coming back little by little.
My material is like making delicious dishes using the “fish scraps” that society produces. I will use things that are discarded like trash or junk, or that are thought to have no value, to make delicious dishes and bring out deep, rich flavors.
This is the opening of Chef Makita’s traveling Sekai no Ara Restaurant.
