The exhibition “YUKIHIRO TAKAHASHI COLLECTION Everyday Life”, which takes a closer look at the work and person of Yukihiro Takahashi, has been announced!


Yukihiro Takahashi’s exhibition “YUKIHIRO TAKAHASHI COLLECTION Everyday Life” will be held from June 6th, which is his birthday.

It has been decided that the event will be held. Yukihiro Takahashi passed away on January 11, 2023. In addition to his solo works, he also performed in groups and units.

He is one of Japan’s leading artists, with over 100 released works, and is an outstanding drummer who has been active in all genres.

He participated in countless recordings and also produced many works.

We take a comprehensive look back at his achievements, while also getting to know him as a fascinating person who is also known as a fashionista with his own brand.

In addition, to coincide with the exhibition, a talk show will be held with guests with a connection to Takahashi Yukihiro.

The talk guest will be announced at a later date.

Born in Tokyo in 1952. He started working as a studio musician in high school and studied at Musashino Art University.

In 1972, he joined the Sadistic Mika Band as a drummer. In 1978, he formed the band YELLOW MAGIC ORCHESTRA (YMO) with Haruomi Hosono and Ryuichi Sakamoto, which had a huge impact both in Japan and overseas before disbanding in 1983.

After that, in parallel with his solo activities, he formed groups such as THE BEATNIKS with Keiichi Suzuki, and pupa with Tomoyo Harada and Hiroshi Takano.

He also performed irregularly under different names, such as SKETCH SHOW with Hosono, and HASYMO and YMO with Sakamoto as members of SKETCH SHOW. As a solo artist, he released albums consistently since 1978’s “Saravah!”. In July 2013, he released the original album “LIFE ANEW” with a band sound, together with his new band “In Phase”, which includes James Iha and others. In January 2014, he released “LIFE ANEW”, an album with a band sound, with Keigo Oyamada (Cornelius), Yoshinori Sunahara,

The band “Takahashi Yukihiro & METAFIVE” was formed with TOWA TEI, Gondo Tomohiko, and LEO Imai as members.

This one-night-only special live performance was well-received, and the band continued to perform at multiple live events afterwards.

In September of the same year, they wrote the ending theme “Split Spirit” for the movie “Ghost in the Shell ARISE border: 4 Ghost Stands Alone,” and in 2015, the group changed its name to “METAFIVE.” In 2022, they will celebrate their 50th anniversary of their musical activities.

In September of the same year, an anniversary concert was held, featuring artists with whom he was close.

He died on January 11, 2023 at the age of 70.
