The album “Ultraman THE Wa・Gaku・Uki,” which combines the sounds of traditional Japanese instruments such as taiko drums, shamisen, shakuhachi, and shinobue with the theme song of the globally popular “Ultraman,” was released on Wednesday, March 20th. Video footage of the recording process has also been uploaded to the YouTube channel of Nippon Columbia, the album’s distributor, and is currently generating a lot of buzz.

This time, traditional Japanese instrument performers active both in Japan and overseas have come together to watch footage recorded over a period of around three days.
Kenta Yamada, a taiko drummer who participated in this recording, commented on the recording as follows:

“The classic Ultraman songs are performed by an ensemble of traditional Japanese instruments.
The album is new yet nostalgic, intense yet delicate!
The Japanese drums are played on three large drums measuring over 3′ 3″ each, creating a powerful sound. In “Ultra Q Main Title – Theme Song,” the rhythm of the music and percussion instruments are used to create a more Japanese, retro feel.
In addition, Vietnamese gongs and other Asian instruments are also used, making the piece more in keeping with the worldview of the theme song.
