■Toon Shibuya “Taiwan Music City” Music Festival Vol.1 Artist Profile

[P!SCO]

Formed in Taipei in 2010, P!SCO is a five-piece band consisting of vocalist, guitarist, bassist, and drummer, and is praised by music fans as a “dance rock group that challenges the limits of muscular endurance.” Their musical style, which combines rock, electronic, and classical music, is one of a kind.

Selected as a finalist in the Best Live Performance category of the Golden Sound Awards, the charm of their unique and bright stage performance, which places emphasis not only on hearing but also on sight, can only be experienced live.

From simple gestures to large choruses, their performance style that emphasizes unity captivates the audience.

[Random]

Random, formed in 2005, is characterized by a diverse musical style that fuses punk, metal, and funk, mainly written in Taiwanese (note: Taiwan’s original language, different from Chinese). The explosive roar of the vocals, energetic drums, guitar with unique arrangements and playing skills, and dynamic performance of the bass flying around the stage make the audience go wild, and even those who are not rock fans are impressed by the power and enthusiasm.

[GGTEENS]

Formed in 2021, GGteens is made up of five students from National Taiwan University and National Taiwan Normal University. With youth and diversity as their theme, they sing about the feelings and worries of young people in a pop and rock style.

He has been active in performing at various festivals in Taiwan. His EP “Youth Observation Diary” released in 2022 was sold out. In 2024, he released his first album “I Am Not Cruel at All” and attempted his first concert with a capacity of 1,000 people, which quickly sold out.

[Sleeping Walkers]

Formed in 2021. The band mainly plays pop rock with full orchestral arrangements, with some old-style rock vocal arrangements, and makes use of digital beat changes to create all kinds of ups and downs.

He expresses his regrets and dissatisfaction with his eloquent performance, not wanting to accept reality. I hope you will find your true self before the song ends. You will also know where your next destination on your long journey should be.

[Warabi Naruko FERNOIZ]

The warm, moist, plant-like orchestra, Naruko Warabi, speaks from a dim corner and sings a story of hope.

Her music combines catchy melodies, simple yet compelling lyrics, richly textured tones, and dynamic rhythms. Audience participation is an important element in Warabi Naruko’s music, and performances and pieces are completed together with the audience.

In 2023, he released his first EP, “Warabiteki.”

In 2024, he was named “Top 10 New Musicians of the Year” at the “Street Voice Awards.”

[LEIGHT NINE]

LEIGHT NINE is an underground techno music group from Taipei.

It combines modern electronic music with traditional Taiwanese culture.

Through innovative sound design and unique instrumental combinations, they create unique musical experiences.

[Head Composer]

Formed in 2015, psychedelic, stoner rock band.

Since their formation, they have performed with various bands both in and outside of Taiwan, and continue to complete works through improvisation.

They released the EP “Hokumei” in 2017, the album “Keiten” in 2018, and the single “Katsusatsu Jizai” in 2023 after a member change.

[PACHILA]

Their emotional and powerful live performances captivate people all over the world.

The “崎” in the band’s name “Pazakira” represents walking a winding and difficult path, believing in music and continuing to move forward towards their dreams.

To all of you who are lost, Pasakura is on your side.

[NUTS]

Formed in 2020, the band consists of double vocals by keyboardist and rapper, as well as guitar, drums, and wind instruments.

The singles “Da Du Lu Gen Soku 70” and “Da Fu Nyu Kou” topped the “Street Voice” rankings for several weeks. The retro rap elements, which combine Mandarin and Taiwanese, and the diverse harmonies make the style of the work unique. The catchy melodies make you want to get into the rhythm after just one listen.

The band name is named after the amygdala, a part of the brain structure that controls emotions. They express emotions that overflow through musical notes. The English band name “NUTS” also means crazy, and represents their passion for music.

[GOTA]

Formed in 2020, GOTA is a four-piece band consisting of two guitars, a bassist, and a drummer, all of whom can sing lead vocals. They sing straightforwardly about people’s contradictions and struggles in an indie rock style.

Just one year after the end of 2021, he was selected for “2022 The Next Big Thing Daidan Birth” and has since participated in various music festivals. In 2022, he released his first studio work, “Weifu Dao”. In 2023, he released the Japanese single “Moshimo”, a collaboration with members of “Gestalt Otome”, which was well received in Taiwan and Japan. In the midst of the electro sound boom, he plays music that connects emotions using both hands through instrument arrangements, reminding the audience of the emotions that can only be experienced in rock.

What Taiwanese music lovers think about the highlights of the “Toyon Shibuya Taiwan Music Festival Vol.1”

My favorite is Hormone Boys.

L89 (LEIGHT NINE) is Luke Chan’s solo project!

It consists of three keywords: “music,” “video,” and “new media.”

We hope you will experience the experimental music of the EP “NAI HE”!

The other group is FERNOIZ (Warabi Naruko).

Last October, during my first business trip to Taiwan for the podcast “Happy Radio” that I host,

I stopped by my favorite store, PAR STORE, in Zhongshan, Taipei.

I happened to get a CD of this band, so it feels a bit like fate.

I’m excited to see what kind of live performance they’ll give in Shibuya!

A chance to experience the present and future of Taiwan’s music scene!

The “Toon Shibuya Taiwan Music City Music Festival Vol.1” to be held in Shibuya will feature 10 diverse bands and artists performing rock, punk, electro, city pop, instrumental music, and more.

The appeal of Taiwan’s music scene lies in its diversity and activity. The Taiwan Music Festival is a live event where you can enjoy that charm to the fullest.

The ten acts performing are a fresh and fulfilling lineup that will allow you to experience the new generation of Taiwanese music. Many of them will be appearing in Japan for the first time, and it is rare to be able to experience such a lineup all at once, even in Taiwan.

What’s more, while each piece is universal music, they are also distinctly unique and somehow have a sound that is unique to Taiwan.

Whether you’ve never experienced Taiwanese music or are already hooked, you have no choice but to experience it. Run to Tower Records in Shibuya!
