toconoma has released their long-awaited new single “Open World” for the first time in about 1 year and 8 months.
The new song “Open World”, which is the first new recording since “Futurez” in October 2022, was first performed at the 15th anniversary solo live concert that filled Hibiya Open-Air Concert Hall in August 2023. At the time, the title was not decided and it was introduced as an “emo new song”, and since then, it has become a familiar song to fans as the so-called “emo new song” that has been performed at live shows.
A modern interpretation of 70’s crossover, with an emotional chorus based on the context of J-POP, the song sounds like a human-powered reproduction of house music. The song is sentimental and positive, with tight and danceable drums and bass, floating guitar and bouncy keyboards playing freely, creating a song that celebrates the start of a new world.
In addition, a music video that is even more emotional than the audio, further opening up the world of the song, has also been released on toconoma’s official YouTube channel.
The film is a heartwarming story that touches the sentimental parts of the heart, depicting the real lives of each member and the story of the band toconoma. The on- and off-duty lifestyle of adults who seriously enjoy music on the weekends is not only a cool lifestyle that everyone aspires to, but also a documentary that conveys a message of enjoying life to the fullest, including the efforts, determination, and suffering that can be seen behind it, and it will naturally move you to tears. The director is Odagiri Akihiro, who has worked on numerous toconoma videos.

An instrumental jam band formed in Shibuya, Tokyo in 2008.
A groove born from a passionate dance beat, and an emotional melody. Even without a song, there was something more conveyed. The sound that was woven transcends the boundaries of genres and opens up new horizons in the scene.
After releasing their 3rd album “NEWTOWN” in June 2017, they performed at FUJI ROCK2018 (FIELD OF HEAVEN stage) and held their 10th anniversary solo tour at 4 locations including TSUTAYA O-EAST in Tokyo (sold out) and Hong Kong. They have also been active in Asia, holding solo tours and performing at outdoor festivals, and released their 4th album “VISTA” for the first time in 3 years on July 8, 2020. From September 2020, they held a tour as toconoma JAPAN TOUR “VISTAS” after overcoming postponements at 6 locations nationwide, and held the final event at TSUTAYA O-EAST in Shibuya in May 2021. In August, they released their first documentary DVD “VISTAS” and all production has already sold out. In August 2021, they invited SPECIAL OTHERS to hold their own event “TOCOJAWS 2021” at Ebisu GARDEN HALL, and tickets sold out immediately. They will also perform at the FUJI ROKC FESTIVAL (FIELD OF HEAVEN stage) for the second time in 2022. In 2023, they will celebrate their 15th anniversary with a solo tour “TOCONOVA”, and in August they successfully held their first solo concert at Hibiya Open-Air Concert Hall, and are continuing to work at their own pace.
