Pony Canyon was founded in 1966. Utilizing the know-how it has accumulated over 50 years in planning, producing, and promoting entertainment content, the company launched a regional revitalization project in 2015 and established the entertainment industry’s first specialized department, the Area Alliance Department, in June 2017. It is committed to collaborating with government ministries and agencies, local governments, and regional corporations, and aims to complete over 500 projects by fiscal 2023 and solve social issues from an entertainment perspective.

J-WAVE was launched in October 1988. It designs its broadcasts based on an innovative programming policy, and its sound has received overwhelming support from listeners in the Tokyo metropolitan area. In addition to establishing itself as “Tokyo’s No. 1 music station,” it continues to broadcast not only music, but also the ideas and lifestyles of urban dwellers, such as fashion, art, and smart living. In March 2020, it became the first FM radio station to join the United Nations “SDG Media Compact.” In order to realize a better future, it broadcasts various initiatives that provide an opportunity to think about the global environment and society.

Regarding this business alliance, Pony Canyon CEO Takashi Yoshimura said, “I have had many sessions with J-WAVE since I was in music production, but this time the field is ‘regional revitalization.’ We will join hands with people who know each other well, mix each other’s strengths, and create solutions from an entertainment perspective to promote sustainable regional development.” J-WAVE CEO Tatsuya Kanda also spoke of his aspirations for this business alliance, saying, “Until now, we have been promoting lifestyles in various ways, but this time, by collaborating with Pony Canyon, we would like to not only promote the charm of the region through broadcasts and events, but also contribute to sustainable regional development in concrete ways.”

In 2024, Pony Canyon and J-WAVE plan to collaborate on branding projects for Numazu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, and Saga Prefecture.

The two companies plan to leverage each other’s strengths and further expand the scope of their collaboration in the future.
