GLAY appeared at 2024 SUPER SLIPPA 13, one of Taipei’s largest festival events, held in Taiwan on August 24th.
This will be their second festival appearance since “SUMMER SONIC 2024” on August 17th, but this will be their first time performing at a festival overseas. The hugely popular festival, which was sold out on both days of the two-day event, was attended by not only local Taiwanese people, but also audience members from Japan.
GLAY’s Taiwan live performance was their first in about six and a half years since “GLAY ARENA TOUR 2018 SPRINGDELICS” on March 17, 2018. When the members appeared on stage and TERU ran to the center stage extending toward the audience before the performance and bowed to everyone who had come to the venue and to the people of Taiwan, the audience erupted in cheers and applause.
Responding to the enthusiasm of the audience, the band started the concert with “whodunit”. During the interlude, they paid homage to Underworld’s “Born Slippy”, which got the crowd excited. “Hello everyone, it’s been a while. We are GLAY. Let’s have fun together!” TERU said in Taiwanese, before performing “Survival” and “Kuchibiru”.
During the intro to “SOUL LOVE,” they expressed their feelings in Taiwanese, saying, “I’m happy to be back at Taipei Arena again,” and after “HOWEVER,” which drew huge cheers from the intro, they performed the summery song “BLEEZE.”
They got the crowd excited with upbeat tunes including their latest digital single “Kaishin no Ippatsu”, “SHUTEER SPEEDS no Theme” which JIRO sings the opening song, and “Kanojo no “Modern…”” which all the members performed on center stage.
TERU said “Let me introduce our best friend” in the MC, which caused a stir, and then Mayday’s vocalist Ashin and guitarist Monster appeared. The members of Mayday, the most popular rock band in Asia, appeared and performed “Yuuwaku” with the audience at full energy, and the stage ended with a bang.
Afterwards, TERU made a surprise appearance on Mayday’s stage, who were the final act of the festival as festival organizers, along with flumpool vocalist Ryuta Yamamura, who was also performing at the event. The two vocalists from Mayday, GLAY and flumpool performed “OAOA,” with lyrics by Ryuta Yamamura and music by Ashin.
The audience gave an overwhelming applause for this international collaboration, and with the excitement in the venue at its peak, TERU’s performance came to an end.
