Skirt releases collaboration PV with manga “Hirayasumi”! Comments have arrived!

Wataru Sawabe’s solo project Skirt has released a collaboration PV with the manga “Hirayasumi” on YouTube.

“Hirayasumi” is a manga serialized in Weekly Big Comic Spirits (Shogakukan), and is one of the comics that is attracting the most attention right now, ranking 8th in the “Manga Taisho 2024”. The creator, Keigo Shinzo, and Skirt have a close relationship both in public and private life, with a character modeled after Sawabe appearing in his work, which led to this collaboration.

The collaboration PV released this time has a heartwarming content that combines the scenery of Asagaya and Koenji, where the manga is set, with the casual daily lives of the main character Hiroto Ikuta and other characters.

In the collaboration PV, you can hear the new song “Let’s go to meet you feat. Inoue Kagetsu (Laura day romance)”, which was written especially for this occasion, with guest vocalist Kagetsu Inoue (Laura day romance). Regarding the collaboration with Skirt, Inoue said, “The demo I received from Mr. Sawabe is perfect for the warm and earnest days of “Hirayasumi,” and since he chose to include my song here, it’s sure to be something wonderful. I was enthusiastic about making it happen,” he commented.

It’s a song that will captivate your heart with the two’s singing voices, so please enjoy it along with the video.

Regarding this collaboration, Keigo Shinzo commented, “Skirt music always gives me a somewhat sentimental and nostalgic feeling, so I thought it would be perfect for Hirayasumi.” In response, Sawabe said, “ Looking back on the song, he said, “I created this song with the hope that it would continue to be that “town where you feel like you can meet someone at any time.”

Comment from Keigo Shinzo

Thank you very much to everyone in the advertising department who made Hirayasumi’s wonderful PV, the director, Sawabe-san who did the skirt, and Inoue-san who did the vocals. How lucky I am to be able to create such a wonderful PV!

And I never expected that Mr. Sawabe, who took care of me when I was always drunk at drinking parties when I was in my 20s, would compose the theme song for Hirayasumi! Skirt’s music always gives me a sentimental and nostalgic feeling, so I thought it would be perfect for Hirayasumi. “Let’s go see you” I find myself humming along throughout the manuscript.

I would be happy if you could feel that “Hirayasumi” is a real scenery in Asagaya through this PV. thank you! !

Watari Sawabe (skirt) comment

I’ve known Shinzo-kun for a long time. I think we first worked together on an independently produced manga magazine called Diorama. I even took care of a drunk Shinzo-kun at a committee launch, hehehe. Despite the differences between manga and music, I always thought they were friends, and I would buy a new publication whenever it came out. That’s why I can’t help but be happy that Shinzo-kun’s manga is being read by so many people.

This time, I asked Kagetsu Inoue from Laura day romance to help me out. Since I have such strong feelings towards the work, the city, and Shinzo-kun, I felt that I needed someone who could calmly color the song. I’m sure everyone will be able to experience that moment when Mr. Inoue sang just one line during the song introduction and thought, “Okay!”

The “Let’s go see you” part in this song is just the melody and words that came out when I relaxed. Although I have never lived in the Koenji area, I have put together all my memories of the Chuo Line and created it with the hope that it will continue to be that “town where you can always meet someone”.

Kagetsu Inoue (Laura day romance) Comment

The demo I received from Mr. Sawabe was perfect for the warm and earnest days of “Hirayasumi,” and since he had chosen to include my song here, I was determined to make it something wonderful.

On the day of the recording, I was looking forward to chatting with Sawabe-san while eating Thai food after the recording, and the time passed very quickly.

I was originally a fan of the manga, having read the original work on the recommendation of a good friend of mine, so I was really surprised when I received the invitation. I am truly happy and honored to be involved in this work.

I hope that the roundness and gentleness of the work will grow in the hearts of everyone who listens to the song.

profile

An unhealthy pop band that has gained a reputation among people of all professions, genders, and ages for their somewhat dark yet refreshing songwriting and band ensemble.

In 2006, Wataru Sawabe’s solo project began with a focus on recording through overdubbing. In 2010, he started his own label, Katuka Sounds, and began his career in earnest with the release of his first album “S.O.S.”.

In April 2021, he was in charge of the opening theme song “ODDTAXI” for the anime “Odd Taxi” in collaboration with PUNPEE. With his extensive knowledge of comedy, in September 2023, he served as a judge for the final round of the comedy award race “UNDER 25 OWARAI CHAMPIONSHIP” for those under 25 years old, and also wrote the theme song for the competition, “Expectations and Premonitions.” He is also involved in the production of numerous animation works, movies, drama soundtracks, and music. He has also provided songs to Takashi Fujii, Kaede (Negicco), Toko Miura, adieu (Moeka Kamishiraishi) and others due to his songwriting sense. Furthermore, as a multi-player, Sawabe himself has participated in live shows and recordings with Spitz, Makoto Kawamoto, and the Moon Riders, whom Sawabe himself respects. He is a wonderful singer-songwriter and band member that has attracted attention for his versatile talent and genre-regardless nature.
