Checkers was all the rage in the 80’s, and since 2023 they have been holding releases and events to celebrate their 40th anniversary. The Blu-ray of “Checkers 1987 GO TOUR at Nakano Sunplaza,” the “phantom live performance” that became a hot topic when the movie was released in March 2024, will be released as a “complete version” including songs that were not released in the movie version. It was decided that it would be done.
Contains all covers of the Checkers’ roots music, doo-wop, and rock’n’ roll standards that were performed on the day of the live recording. It is a content that allows you to enjoy their specialty a cappella chorus even more. The 3-disc Blu-ray BOX, which is exclusive to the 40th anniversary special site, includes restored high-definition GO TOUR footage from the Nakano Sunplaza performance, Osaka Stadium, and Nippon Budokan. It is a luxurious specification that includes Dolby Atmos MIX, a special mini photo book, and bonus footage.
The Checkers’ official YouTube channel has started showing the Blu-ray trailer as well as the full-size footage of the live performance at Nakano Sunplaza of the single “NANA” released on October 15, 1986, which was self-produced by the members for the first time.
Prior to the Blu-ray release on December 25th, the live sound source of the Nakano Sunplaza performance, including Dolby Atmos MIX, will be distributed. A campaign is running until the end of October where those who purchase the download can win a lottery ticket to the roaring scream screening to be held at live house Harevutai in Ikebukuro, Tokyo from November 13th to 14th. Please check out the 40th anniversary special website for more details.

profile
A rock band consisting of Ikuya Fujii (V), Akira Takeuchi (G), Yoshihiko Takamo (V), Yuji Odoi (B), Seiji Tsuruhisa (V), Yoshiya Tokunaga (Dr), and Naoyuki Fujii (SAX). Debuted in September 1983 with the single “Jagged Heart’s Lullaby”. Songs such as “Tears of Request” and “Julia ni Heartbreak” became huge hits, and many young people imitated her fashion, gaining idol-like popularity and creating a social phenomenon. After the single “NANA” in 1987, the group made the leap into a full-fledged rock band, focusing on the members’ own compositions, and released many hits such as “WANDERER” and “Breath of Dawn.” At the end of 1992, the band disbanded.
