GLAY has released the artwork for their best album, which is scheduled to be released in April.
The artwork uses a new key visual created by Eiichiro Oda, the original author of “ONE PIECE,” who also created the logo and key visual for GLAY’s 30th anniversary. GLAY’s facial expressions are boldly depicted, so please take a look at the details.
The album titles are “DRIVE 1993~2009-GLAY complete BEST” and “DRIVE 2010~2026-GLAY complete BEST,” which are named after GLAY’s blockbuster best album “DRIVE” released in 2000. Two titles released simultaneously. This is the first time in 12 years since 2013 that two titles, which are synonymous with GLAY, have been released simultaneously.
A noteworthy point is that it was announced that the songs to be included in the best album will be decided by fan voting under the theme of “Creating with you and GLAY”. The nicknames of the fans who participated in the vote will be featured on the album package, so be sure to check it out on the special website. In addition, as the title of this work suggests, it also includes sound sources that give you a feel of the night before their debut in 1993 and beyond their 30th anniversary in 2026.
The music video for “BRIGHTEN UP” included in their 17th album released in October 2024 has been released. It was created using CG animation based on the anniversary key visual created by Eiichiro Oda, and since the lyrics of “BRIGHTEN UP” symbolize GLAY’s 30 years of history and the future, it is a “30 from modern times” theme. The worldview is based on the theme of “Time Leap, which depicts the future years in the future.” This work pursues an evolved version of the anime MV “Survival” released in 1999, and is also notable for its new visual expression set in the future and the fusion of animation and live-action using cutting-edge technology. I would like you to watch it.
Director/Production: Susumu Yamaguchi (Kamikaze Douga) Comments
“The moment I saw the logo designed by Eiichiro Oda, I felt ‘rock’. Even as GLAY celebrates their 30th anniversary, I feel that their attitude of continuing to evolve and delivering new music embodies the essence of “rock star GLAY.” How can we express that energy as a video to bring out the coolness of GLAY to the fullest? Through repeated trial and error, we came up with the overall concept of the video, set the stage in a futuristic city with a “rock” feel, and created a composition that would make “Rock Star GLAY” shine. I believe that the video work allows you to feel the “rock” that emanates from the interplay of the charm of GLAY and the energy of Mr. Oda’s design. I hope all the fans will be happy.”
Director/Director: Maki Takahashi (Kamikaze Douga) Comments
“I remember being extremely excited when I heard that in the commemorative year of GLAY’s 30th anniversary, they would be producing an animation MV featuring the GLAY members drawn by Eiichiro Oda. There are many fans of Mr. Oda, and while being encouraged by his wonderful songs, the feeling of “I want this collaboration to be absolutely great” naturally spreads, and the creativity of each staff member in terms of visual expression is brought out to the maximum. I felt it coming. We hope that this MV will help convey the song “Brighten Up” and the charm of GLAY, which continues to shine, to more people. ”
General Director: Junpei Mizusaki (Kamikaze Douga) Comments
“Happy 30th Anniversary to all GLAY and fans. The hurdles I wanted to overcome were high because I am a big fan of GLAY, so it was a very difficult production site, but I am very happy to announce that GLAY, which was designed by Mr. Oda, and the live-action A dynamic session by GLAY that no one has seen before has been completed. This MV was created by GLAY fans for GLAY fans. Let’s experience it together! ”
