The film is based on the novel of the same name by Tsujimura Mizuki. When the book was released in 2019, it won the 7th Booklog Award and resonated with many people, especially those in their 20s and 30s, with the number of copies in print exceeding 1 million.

Ka was doing well in both work and love, but after being dumped by his long-time girlfriend, he started looking for a husband on a dating app.

He starts dating the considerate Mami, but even after a year has passed, he is unable to decide on marriage. However, right after she confesses to him that she has a stalker, he receives a terrified phone call saying, “Ka-kun, help me!” He finally gets engaged to her, determined to protect her, but Mami suddenly disappears. While searching for her whereabouts by visiting her parents, friends, colleagues, and past lovers, Ka learns about her past and lies that he did not want to know.
