American-born bilingual MC Joe Cupertino’s new 8-track album “RE:” features Lil’ Leise But Gold, Suzuki Makiko (chelmico), Ole, and Tamaki ROY. This is Joe Cupertino’s alternative hip-hop that transcends various musical genres from ancient times to the present, from all over the world.

Joe CupertinoThe opening song of this album, “Stars,” focuses on the theme of “RE:” as a whole, “rebirth.” The repeated explosion of stars represents the continued evolution of Joe’s music.
The dried flowers that appear in the lyrics represent a kind of “rebirth,” as flowers that once withered take on a new form.
The second track, “Ruby,” features Lil’ Leise But Gold and is produced by Ryuju Tanoue (wau), and focuses on the “rebirth” that we see in CD players and other devices.
The next track, “Wagamama”, features Suzuki Makiko of chelmico and is a song with a somewhat nostalgic track about how selfishness, an inherently self-centered emotion, decreases as we get older.
“Soup,” featuring Ole, is the opposite of “Selfish.” With powerful words and rhymes that allude to the feelings of suppressing selfishness, this song is an anthem that encourages one to overcome self-loathing and be reborn.
The fifth track, “Benidorm,” is music that feels like the innermost parts of the soul are laid bare.
“Rebirth,” featuring Tamaki ROY, expresses the theme of rebirth and the reproduction of everyday life.
The everyday scenes look somehow different each day, giving a sense of renewal.
The seventh track, “sadjoeaido,” is a musical rendition of the world Joe imagines after the death of a pet, from his perspective, after the loss of that pet.
And the last song, “Destroy,” has a title that means destruction, which is the complete opposite of rebirth.
The song focuses on the theme of destruction as the starting point for rebirth.
The film ends without clearly showing the regeneration that lies beyond the destruction, leaving it to the imagination, foreshadowing the film’s next work, scheduled for release in 2024.
