The opportunity to create “My Favorite Things” came when Takuro Okada, who worked with me on the recently released album “Your Favorite Things,” suggested that I also create an acoustic version of the album.
Although I have played solo a lot up until now, I didn’t have much of a commitment to the sound of this form, and I didn’t have any ideals, so I didn’t have any guidelines for making an album of acoustic guitar and vocals, and I didn’t feel like I could make it, so I always hesitated. However, this time, Okada-san said he would work with me, so I was able to go ahead and record, thinking that we might be able to make something good.
As expected, I realized my lack of skill and lack of thought in arranging by myself, and I was shocked at my arrogance and insensitivity, thinking, “How could I have done it like this…” It was a time to face the current situation, and although I felt embarrassed and it was hard to persevere, I am really glad that I had this recording. Without this album, I think I would have continued to sing and play the guitar in a daze forever. It was like it saved me from a quiet crisis… I was really glad to realize that music time is never easy, no matter what form it takes, and that there is always so much to think about. I think it was an incredible luxury to be able to look back at such a very beginning with such a great musician as Okada. Furthermore, after Toshihiko Kasai did the miking on the first day, all the recording was done by Okada, the three of us, including his manager Hayama, and it was amazing that they managed to complete it despite struggling with the large SSL mixer. (I finished before I even understood anything about SSL) I am extremely grateful to Yu Taniguchi, who taught me from scratch how to sing and play on the keyboard, was present at the recording, and encouraged me when I felt like I couldn’t play anymore. Thank you so much to everyone who worked with me on this and gave me such a rare experience! I think it’s a great album. I hope you enjoy this as well as “Your Favorite Things”, so please look forward to it!

Satoko Shibata
Singer-songwriter/poet. Born in Sapporo, Hokkaido. Graduated from Musashino Art University and completed graduate studies at Tokyo University of the Arts.
He began his activities in 2010 after hearing a comment from his university teacher.
In 2012, she made her album debut with her first album “Shibata Satoko Island,” which was produced by Hiroki Misawa and recorded over multiple tracks. Since then, she has expanded her activities, mainly focusing on singing, such as releasing the hour-long monologue-like work “Tanomoshii Musume” at the theater festival Festival/Tokyo 13, and in 2022, she released her sixth original album “Bochibochi Ginga.”
In 2016, he published his first collection of poems, “Desert.” In the same year, he won the 5th El Sur Foundation Newcomer Award. He has also contributed many poems, essays, picture book stories, and more. In 2023, he will publish a collection of essays, “Kiregire no Diary,” which is a compilation of his serialization in the literary magazine “Bungakukai” over a period of seven years. He is also attracting attention as a poet, with a feature in the magazine “Eureka” scheduled.
In addition to releasing his own works, he is not picky about the form of expression he takes, and also provides songs for films and TV dramas, and produces music videos entirely on his own, including shooting and editing them.
On February 28, 2024, they released their latest album, “Your Favorite Things.”
