South Penguin releases their first album in two years, “South Penguin.”
A work that is the culmination of recent fulfilling activities, with the group’s name as the title.

South Penguin’s first album in two years, “Y” released in 2019 and “R” released in 2022, “South Penguin”.
This work continues to be the culmination of recent fulfilling activities with Takuro Okada as producer.

“Animal Planet”, which is also the first single from the album, is cool, boogie dance music that goes through new wave/post-punk.
In addition to the sound centered on a strong three-piece band that starts with a thick bass, mellow “metro” also has a trendy side with “Double Asano” in the lyrics.
The following song, “dance,” is a mellow and slow chill pop song. “Empty” is a song featuring a light rhythm that starts with a unique guitar intro.
The heart-warming “kani” is full of poetic spirit and was created in 5 minutes on the streets of Okachimachi. “Business” is dance music with techno-like minimal elements that was inspired by “Money no Tora”.
“Tiger” is a thrilling song that combines prog rock with a strong funk guitar/saxophone sound. “Teardrop” is the heaviest song on the album, featuring a dynamic and distinctive riff, and also includes some freaky solos.
“Actress” has a beautiful melody and is a song with a triple time signature that is not often found in South Penguin. And “suki suki daisuki” contains a fulfilling 10 songs that are generally good songs that are suitable to decorate the end of the album.

A psychedelic paradise where the diverse and sometimes powerful music of a band intersects with the whisper-like delicacy of vocals.

While evoking the image of edgy keywords such as post-punk, free jazz, Latin, and new wave, much of Akatsuka’s songwriting is finished in a pop style that sometimes reminds one of popular songs, which is one of South Penguin’s distinctive charms. It is one of the
The potential of the support members with high performance skills explodes in “R”. Sometimes beautiful, sometimes aggressive or tricky, each song shows a variety of expressions, and Akatsuka’s vocals have a whisper-like delicacy.

The first song “vitamin” is a math rock/progressive song that feels like the new era of South Penguin, which is suitable for the beginning of “R”. Aka NGS (Dos Monos)’s high-tension rap and freaky no-wave style saxophone. are placed all over. The following song, “thinker,” takes a turn, with a haunting guitar riff intertwined with complex jazz-like rhythm and bass. “Fancy” is a romantic song featuring Akatsuka’s whisper-like vocals. “Luv Revolution” is the slowest number on the album, and you can enjoy the psychedelic red vocals. The following song, “gadja,” is a powerful song that brings about a chemical reaction between Latin, new wave Afro-funk, and Dos Monos’ rap. “Night Walker” is a mid-tempo number with a floating guitar all over it. And the last song, “nt,” is the only instrumental on “R,” and it is a beautiful yet melancholic piano/guitar that is beautifully fused with a tight rhythm.

Formed in Tokyo in July 2014.
Debuted in 2016 with the EP “alaska”.
After performing their first overseas live in Taiwan in June 2017, all members except Akatsuka left the band. After that, we started working with support members.
In 2017, released their 2nd EP “house”. In 2018, China tour including the Chinese festival “Taihu Midi Festival”,
In 2019, they toured Taiwan including the Taiwanese festival “WAKE UP FESTIVAL 2019”.
Then, in August 2019, he released his 1st album “Y”, in June 2020 he released 7INCH “bubbles / mad love”, and in March 2022 he released his latest work “R”.
In August 2021, he will perform at “FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL” for the second time.
