STU48's "Whose Flowers Are?" choral version has won first place on the USEN request chart and become a hot topic! Sheet music sales have also started!

In 2022, STU48’s 8th single “Whose Flowers Are They?” was released as a message song wishing for peace, and has been given new life, once again making waves on the USEN charts.

“Whose Flowers Are They?” was written by Yasushi Akimoto in 2022, shortly after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. At a time when everyone was worried about peace, this message song released by a Setouchi-based idol group that was neither a singer-songwriter nor a rock band was gradually gaining popularity after being aired on USEN, and achieved the feat of ranking in the TOP 10 of the 2022 “Annual USEN HIT J-POP Ranking” among big names such as Official Hige Dandism, Tani Yuuki, and Aimer. Akimoto also appeared on MUSIC STATION twice, breaking numerous records as the song that brought about the biggest hit and a big leap in the artist’s history.

About two years later, in April of this year, STU48 released their first album, “Natsukashii Ashita,” which includes a self-cover of the song, “Hana wa Dare no Mono? Chorus Ver. feat. Shimatani Hitomi,” in which the members of STU48 sing together.

As the title suggests, a new version was recorded, featuring Hiroshima-born Shimatani Hitomi, who co-starred with the singer in the original drama-style music video as a music teacher. Reborn in a new choral format, the message of “Whose Flowers Are These?” stands out even more, it has a more powerful and emotional impact, and is filled with hope for peace.

The album debuted at 26th place on the USEN J-POP request rankings during the week of its release, and gradually climbed the ranks, peaking at 2nd place on the chart dated July 3rd. It then gradually dropped in the rankings, but re-emerged on the chart dated July 24th, taking the impressive 1st place.

Upon reaching first place, new captain Okada Azumi commented, “‘Whose Flowers Are These?’ reached many people when it was released and was a catalyst for expanding our field of activity, so it’s an important song for STU48, so I’m really happy that we’ve reached number one on the USEN Request Chart! I hope that this song, which sings of thoughts about peace, will become a song that many people, such as students, will sing in chorus form.” She once again reflected on the appeal of this song and the significance of continuing to sing it.

Tsuruga Masashi, who composed the original song, also offered a congratulatory comment, saying, “In March 2021, I had a premonition that something new would be born, and the moment I picked up my guitar, the melody of ‘Whose Flowers Are They?’ came down to me. And that’s how this song was born. After that, Akimoto Yasushi sent me the lyrics, and the members of STU48 poured their soulful voices into the song. The triangle of lyrics, melody, and vocals came together, and I still vividly remember the emotion I felt when I first heard it. I hope that this song, which contains a powerful message of peace, will reach and be loved by many people. Love and peace.”

In response to this reaction, it was decided to sell the sheet music for the choral version of “Whose Flowers Are? Choir Ver. feat. Shimatani Hitomi”. It will be on sale from 18:00 on Friday, August 9th at the sheet music sales site “Score@ELISE”.

The campaign will run until 10:30 on Monday, September 2nd, and the sheet music can be downloaded for ¥100 (tax included). It is expected that this chorus of wishes for peace will be heard all over Japan.
