NIKI, the singer-songwriter of 88rising, has announced a new summer-colored love song, “TSUNAMI,” from his new album “BUZZ,” to be released on August 9th.

NIKI, a singer-songwriter and producer born in Jakarta and currently living in Los Angeles, has released a new single, “Tsunami.” It heralds the arrival of the age of girls in love. This new song is the lead single from his new album “Buzz,” which will be released on August 9th. Following the previously announced “Blue Moon” and “Too Much Of A Good Thing,” this will be the third single from the album.

Tsunami

The new song “Tsunami” compares the feeling of falling in love to a tsunami that suddenly sweeps NIKI off her feet, but she’s ready to embrace it. The lush and refreshing track is accompanied by a grainy visualizer of her twirling on a sandy beach. “Tsunami” is the perfect backdrop for a summer romance.

Singer-songwriter and international star NIKI began writing her third album, Buzz, after an impulse welled up from deep within her soul. The result is a collection of stirring folk-rock songs that crackle and burn like a campfire among close friends. “I was having an identity crisis,” the 25-year-old says of Buzz. “There was a lot of trial and error and I discovered different sides to myself along the way. I felt like I was on the brink of something really happening, that’s why I named it Buzz.”

“Blue Moon”

Things have been steadily changing for NIKI since her high school days in Jakarta, Indonesia. As a student at the International Academy, she went from scribbling poems about lovesickness in English class to covering American pop songs on YouTube with her acoustic guitar. Then she grabbed her six-string guitar and performed in front of her family and classmates, receiving cheers from them, and Nicole Zefanya became NIKI and achieved global stardom.

Before turning 25, NIKI has already built a resume on par with that of veteran artists, with over 3 billion streams worldwide, sold-out shows on multiple continents, huge festival stages around the world, front row at Paris Fashion Week, four songs on Marvel soundtracks, and a string of confessional music scheduled for release in 2024.

Her songwriting on her new album, Buzz, is more intimate than ever. In early song sketches, she pens confessional, earnest lyrics and takes cues from other trailblazing women who came before her. “Joni Mitchell is like a North Star for my songwriting,” she says, naming Stevie Nicks, Carly Simon and Liz Phair as notable artists who are uncompromising feminists. She also develops her own bouncy guitar playing style to match the nomadic spirit of Buzz.

To harness this creative and personal growth, she approached producers who have worked with some of today’s favorite singer-songwriters, including Tyler Chester, who has worked with Madison Cunningham and Sara Bareilles, and Ethan Gruska, collaborator with Fiona Apple and Phoebe Bridgers.

The album “Buzz” resonates with the intelligence that NIKI has cultivated as a young woman who boldly pursues her dreams while also laughing off any setbacks she may encounter.
