Rira Ikuta has written a new song, “Sign,” which has been chosen as the theme song for the original drama series “Transparent Us” (6 episodes in total), which will be streamed for free on ABEMA from 11:00 p.m. on Monday, September 16, 2024.
The work is an original ABEMA drama series written and directed by Yusaku Matsumoto, known for the films “Winny” and “All Because of Me,” and produced by Michihito Fujii, known for the films “The Yakuza and the Family” and “True Identity.” The two directors, who have worked on many socially conscious works, have produced a drama with a completely original script. The cast includes Ono Karin, Ito Kentaro, Kura Yuki, Takeda Rena, and other talented actors in their 20s who are the same generation as Fukuhara and have an indispensable presence in domestic dramas and films, all of whom sympathize with the theme of “a work that captures the ‘now’ of young people in their 20s who feel like they don’t belong anywhere.” This socially conscious ensemble suspense drama is set in Tokyo and Toyama, and is the first collaboration between Fukuhara Haruka, Matsumoto Yusaku, and Fujii Michihito. The series realistically and honestly depicts the emotions and situations that young people in their 20s find themselves in, as well as the conflicts that result from them. Because it is an ensemble drama, it is a story that any viewer will be able to empathize with at least one of the characters. The series will begin streaming on Monday, September 16th.
The theme song, “Sign,” is a slow-tempo, gentle tune that expresses the feelings of “placelessness” and “loneliness” felt by young people today, as depicted in the film. Please pay attention to the lyrics that link with the content of the film. Also, the program trailer that uses the song was released today, so please check it out. A comment from the artist himself has also arrived!
■ Comment from Rira Ikuta
I wrote a song called “Sign” as the theme song.
After reading the script for the drama and watching the actual footage, I was touched by the conflicts and frustration that Aoi and the others experience through the incident, as well as the thoughts they derive from that. I wanted to create a song that connects with my own reality as someone from a similar generation.
Each person has their own sense of justice, and while they may make mistakes at times, they continue to desperately search for who they are. I hope that this song, “Sign,” can become a song that grows with them with each episode. Thank you.

Shibuya, 2024. An unidentified young man commits a brutal crime.
The protagonist, Aoi, a weekly magazine writer, realizes that the culprit in the crime may be a high school classmate.
Reuniting with former friends who had become estranged.
Who caused the incident and why?
As he reminisces about his high school days, he pursues the truth.
Among those memories, one that comes back to me as a vivid memory is an incident that occurred on the day of the school festival.
