Frank Turner “International Hide & Seek Champions”

■ Latest album: “Undefeated”

The album is the follow-up to Turner’s first UK number one album, FTHC, released in 2022, and will be released on her own independent label after leaving a major label in order to regain the sense of freedom that comes with working as an independent artist. “Founding a global independent label has made me come home for the first time,” Turner said.

Thematically, Undefeated is a reflection on life, but sonically it echoes the influences he has touched upon at various points in his kaleidoscopic career: from Black Flag to Counting Crows, Descendents to The Pogues, via Elvis Costello and Billy Bragg. Its freewheeling nature reflects not only his newfound independence, but also the creative environment he finds himself in. As always, the album is entirely his own writing, but it is the first to be produced by him and recorded at his home studio on Mersea Island, Essex, which he shares with his wife, Jessica Guise. Members of his live band, Ben Lloyd (guitar), Tarrant Anderson (bass), Callum Green (drums) and Matt Nasir (piano), also feature on the album.
