Hong Kong-based global star Jackson Wang has released a new single “GBAD” from his upcoming new album “Magic Man 2” and a music video for the song. It sends a bold message.
“It’s also necessary to become a bad guy at times, not to hurt others, but to draw boundaries and protect your own will,” Jackson said.
He sarcastically accepts the reality that setting boundaries can make him a villain for others. He seals off his own tendency to please everyone, and gives keen thoughts on the unsettling price of personal growth.
The fearless alternative R&B song “GBAD” features undoubtedly Jackson-like vocals and a jazzy production with raidback by Grammy-winning producer Dem Joinz (Kanye West, Jenny). The melancholic music video directed by Rich Lee (Eminem, Lana Del Rey) shows Jackson’s alter ego, “The Magic Man,” appears in a idyllic town, repeatedly asked to save her from a predicament. The surreal, dark comedic video reflects Jackson’s own personal experiences, while exploring the meaning of his existence, where “Magic Man” feels overlooked and underrated.

Last month, Jackson announced that he would release his new album, Magic Man 2, in 2025. He released his enchanting new song “High Alone,” which explores loneliness and self-destruction, and introduced the very personal themes of his new album. The personality of “Magic Man,” which was first introduced in his previous 2022 film “Magic Man,” which charted on the US Billboard, will evolve and transform in this sequel.
Since its release, the single “High Alone” has ranked number one on Apple Music in 22 countries and regions.
