Hip-hop’s greatest storyteller and culture icon Slick Rick has released his first new album, Victory, in 26 years. American veteran rapper NAS will be participating in the focus track “Documents.”

Slick Rick – “VICTORY” Trailer

With his first new album in 26 years, “Victory,” Slick Rick, also known as “The Ruler,” begins a new chapter full of victory. He pushes the boundaries of storytelling, legacy and imagination even further, overwhelming it with sound and video. The Poet (= Slick Rick) and The Visionary (= Idris Elba) are executive produced, and includes powerful collaborations with the NAS, Giggs, and Esther’s special participation songs.

Slick Rick says:

“The album Victory embodies nothing but perseverance, storytelling, imagination and evolution. It is a visual fusion of art and heart, a sonic journey that reflects the path I have been on and the path I will be heading. Victory is not just a music, it is a fearless statement, and the finest art of Britain!”

“I worked with Slick Rick… I returned to my hometown of England and made a great contribution to the hip-hop world. I’m so happy. It’s a literal gift!” Idris Elba said.

The NAS also states:

“We’ve been working with Slick Rick for a long time. It was great to be able to return to the studio and create this new song. He’s a person who has had a huge impact on hip-hop culture and I look forward to seeing him share this project with the next generation of fans.”

The core of this project is a 30-minute immersive film directed by Meji Alabi, who was also involved in the production of Beyoncé’s Black Is King, creating bold images and bringing depth to the story.

For this aesthetic vision, Slick Rick collaborated with legendary photographer Jonathan Mannion and brand storyteller Equator Studios. The music was mixed by Young Guru, and the album’s artwork and development was collaborated with British agency PAQ and Rick’s own Team Eye Patch.

The new album “Victory,” which was produced over four years, was songwritten and recorded in Rick’s hometown of London and France. The spectacular footage was shot in three continents: the United States, the United Kingdom and Africa. As a result, it pays homage to Rick’s roots across continents, and is packed with deep lyrics, cinematic charm, and artistry that transcends genres.
