Brooklyn-based indie pop band Daisy the Great has released their new album, The Rubber Teeth Talk. They team up with Grammy Award-winning producer Katherine Marks (Boy Genius, Saint Vincent, and Alanis Morissette) to further evolve a genre-transcending, multidimensional sound, and enhance the complex harmony full of hooks.

Producer Katherine Marks said about the album production with Daisy the Great, which features Mina Walker and Kelley Dugan as the main characters.

“We laughed a lot while making the album, but we had plenty of opportunities to shed a bit of tears. When we first heard the song, we were immediately drawn into their world. I love the characters and sonic identities we created for each song that follows their storytelling. This album is undoubtedly full of their personalities and I love them.”

The EP Spectacle: Daisy the Great vs. Tony Visconti, released last fall, was produced with Grammy Award-winning producer Tony Visconti (T. Rex, David Bowie). The experimental, kaleidoscope-like music received high praise. This new album, “The Rubber Teeth Talk,” unleashes an addictive, versatile sound, demonstrating the infinite possibilities of Daisy the Great.

Daisy the Great “Dog”

“Dog,” which opens the album, consisting of 11 songs, features songwriting that is more sharp and quicker than ever before.

“‘Dog’ is a song I wrote about a long walk along the streets of New York on a melancholy day,” says Kelly Dougan. “I saw the plush of the Winnie the Pooh lying face down in a muddy puddle on the curb in West Village, and I thought, ‘Oh, this is me.’ It was like a little weird gift from the city of New York, and it made me smile, disillusioned with becoming an adult.”

Daisy the Great, who lists “uncomparable to anyone else” artists like Fiona Apple, The Sundays, David Bowie, The Dirty Projectors and Liz Fair as their source of inspiration, has been committed to being one of a kind and has naturally grown listeners. The only rules for the new album, The Rubber Teeth Talk, are perfect harmony and sharp melody, and each song gives off an incredible, unique presence. It also teaches once again that the voice itself is an instrument.

Daisy the Great “Ballerina”

After their first headliner tour, Daisy the Great began producing a new album in New York, and they collected seeds from the mysterious experiences and dreams of the past two years, focusing on the twisted logic of dreams in which latent desires unconsciously appear. He explains that it reflects both the “important and tiny things” that occur in their lives. The two write songs together every day, sharing them with bandmates Nardo Ochoa and Matti Dunietz, and working with their partners to create demos. Grammy-winning producer Katherine Marks and the band pre-production at the basement studio in Dunietz in New York, before completing it at Studio G in Brooklyn.

“Everyone in the band came every day, even on days when they didn’t record, like family. They joked, argued, jamed, and took their time trying to find cool sounds. We wanted this album to be very fruitful, with lots of small pockets…so we combined a different world.”

Although the lyrics come from Dugan and Walker’s personal experiences, they have an intimate connection with each other as friends and as artists.

“Many of the songs on the album are about self-awareness, comparisons, and in a way anxiety. They are also about fear and believing in yourself that everything is going well. Believing this is an adventure or journey, and then you’ll find a way to overcome the confusion.”
