YOASOBI has been selected to sing the theme song for the movie “Touch.”, which will be released on Friday, October 4th. This is the first time they have been involved in a theme song tie-up with an anime movie, and Mari Okada, who is the screenwriter for the song, wrote a novel for the song and created a new song, “Monotone,” based on that novel. The work is the latest original feature-length animation by director Tatsuyuki Nagai, screenwriter Mari Okada, and character designer Masayoshi Tanaka, who have worked on the heart-stirring youth trilogy “Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day” (2011, 2013), “The Anthem of the Heart” (2015), and “A Blue Sky of the Sky” (2019). The story is about three young men who are childhood friends and are connected by the power of a mysterious creature without having to express their feelings. The story of three people and one animal is a work that teaches us about the true connection between people in today’s world where communication is becoming more complex.

The director is Nagai Tatsuyuki, who made his directorial debut with “Honey and Clover II” (2006) and has worked on “A Certain Scientific Railgun” (2009) and “Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans” (2015). The screenplay is by Okada Mari, who also wrote and directed the film “Making a Promised Flower Bloom on the Morning of Goodbye” (2018) and last year’s “Alice and Teresa’s Phantom Factory” (2023). Character design is by Tanaka Masayoshi, who has worked on megahits such as character design for “Sparrow’s Door Lock” (2022) and animation direction for “Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time” (2021).

The main characters Aki, Ryo, and Yuta will be played by super talented actors such as Ren Nagase, Ryuta Bando, and Kentaro Maeda. And today, ahead of the release, the movie trailer and key visuals using a part of the song were also released, so be sure to check them out too.

The song “Monotone” that I wrote this time was created while facing the “relationships between people” that I felt through the movie, and the loneliness and feelings of thinking about someone that I feel in my own life. The world is developing day by day, and because we are in an environment where it is easy to communicate with various tools, I feel that it is important to face the loneliness that we feel because of this, so I put that feeling into the song. I hope you will enjoy it along with the movie.
