NINE INCH NAILS, photo exhibition “Jonathan Rach: Nine Inch Nails, The Downward Spiral Exhibition” commemorating the 30th anniversary of “The Downward Spiral” will be held in Shibuya!

Behind The Gallery, which organizes photo exhibitions of artists based in Australia, will hold “Jonathan Rach: Nine Inch Nails, The Downward Spiral Exhibition” from November 22nd to November 24th on the south 3rd floor of MIYASHITA PARK in Shibuya. Held at Gallery SAI!

This exhibition commemorates the 30th anniversary of the album “The Downward Spiral” released by NINE INCH NAILS in 1994, and was accompanied by the album’s world tour “Self Destruct Tour” from 1994 to 1996. Photographs taken by Jonathan Larch will be on display. After holding events in Sydney, Melbourne, and London, it has been decided that it will be coming to Tokyo for the first time!

Jonathan Larch is a scriptwriter/director of documentary/feature films, including the documentary film “Closure” about NINE INCH NAILS, which was released in 1997 and was not exported or released in Japan due to its radical content. In charge of scriptwriting/direction. Regarding the event being held in Tokyo for the first time in Japan, “We happened to be able to capture a historical moment in the history of music at the perfect time. The items on display this time are items found in the back of a warehouse.” These are emotional and powerful photos from the Self Destruct Tour that vividly convey the atmosphere of the time, and I feel honored that they will be exhibited in Japan now, almost 30 years later.” I am doing it.

NINE INCH NAILS also commented on the event, saying, “This photo exhibition will focus on the wonderful photographs taken by our friend Jonathan during his 1994-1995 Self Destruct Tour, after 30 years. This will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

Over 45 photos taken during the tour will be on display during the event. In addition to exhibiting photos that will be shown for the first time in the world in Tokyo, there will also be photos of NINE INCH NAILS that were recently discovered taken by Jonathan outside of the “Self Destruct Tour” and artists such as David Bowie and Lou Reed who were close friends with the band. In addition, photos from NINE INCH NAILS’ 6-night consecutive performance at the Hollywood Palladium in 2018 are also scheduled to be released.

In addition to some photos being sold for a limited time, there are also plans to sell photos with Jonathan’s signature and a Tokyo-only serial number.

To commemorate the event, an opening event will be held from 5pm on November 22nd, and an artist talk by Jonathan Larch will be held from 5pm on the 23rd.

■Comment from Stephen Dallimore (Behind The Gallery Creative Director)
The opportunity to display this collection of photographs for the NINE INCH NAILS community in Japan was very important to us. Jonathan’s photos provide a rare glimpse into the tour of NIN, one of the most important artists in music culture. We look forward to creating a special experience for fans and collectors, and this is one you won’t want to miss!

■Comment from Daniel Merlot (event producer)
NINE INCH NAILS’ cultural influence on Japan’s underground music, fashion, visual arts, and design is immeasurable. Jonathan Larch’s photography captures the cultural zeitgeist of The Downward Spiral era. We look forward to introducing this one-off exhibition in Tokyo.
