NINE INCH NAILS is a legendary artist who continues to influence the world with his innovative musicality and vivid live performances.
Released in 1994, the album “The Downward Spiral”, which is highly regarded as NINE INCH NAILS’s masterpiece, had artwork by Russell Mills, debuted at number 2 on Billboard, and appeared in the same year with “Wood”. Their mud-covered performance at Stock Festival was broadcast live, shocking the entire world and making NINE INCH NAILS famous.
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the release of this work, “Nine Inch Nails, The Downward Spiral – An Exhibition by Jonathan Rach” will be held in Tokyo!
This photo exhibition exhibits photos taken by Jonathan Rach, who accompanied the world tour “Self Destruct Tour” with “The Downward Spiral.” The exhibition was held across the continent in Sydney, Melbourne, and London, and was held at the final stage. It has been decided that the event will be held in Tokyo, which has a deep connection with NINE INCH NAILS.
We received the following comments from NINE INCH NAILS and Jonathan Rach regarding the Tokyo exhibition.
■NINE INCH NAILS Comments
This photo exhibition will be a unique opportunity to highlight, 30 years later, the wonderful photographs taken by our friend Jonathan during his 1994-1995 “Self Destruct Tour”. .
■Jonathan Rach comment
I happened to be able to capture a historic moment in music history at the perfect time. The items on display this time are photos from the “Self Destruct Tour” that were found in the back of the warehouse and are emotional and powerful, and vividly convey the atmosphere of the time. Now, almost 30 years have passed, I feel honored to be exhibiting it in Japan.
Jonathan Rach, a writer/director of documentaries and feature films, directed the legendary Nine Inch Nails documentary “Closure,” which was not released in Japan due to its extreme content.
At this Tokyo exhibition, in addition to more than 45 valuable photos taken during the tour, there will be world-first photos that can only be seen in Tokyo. There are also photos of NINE INCH NAILS taken by Jonathan outside of the “Self Destruct Tour”, photos of artists who are close friends with NINE INCH NAILS such as David Bowie and Lou Reed, and the 6-night consecutive performance at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles in 2018. Photos will also be exhibited. In addition to some photos being sold at the venue, there will also be limited sales of photos with Jonathan’s autograph and Tokyo limited serial number.
The Tokyo exhibition will begin on November 22nd, and a talk session with Jonathan and a listening party for “The Downward Spiral” will also be held on November 23rd.
Please come and experience this precious space that celebrates the 30th anniversary of NINE INCH NAILS, which continues to influence people through the ages, and their legendary masterpiece “The Downward Spiral”!
