■Message from the producer of “rockin’on sonic”
Rockin’ On, a leading magazine for Western rock music that has been at the forefront of the scene for 50 years, and Creativeman, the organizers of Japan’s largest urban Western music festival, Summer Sonic, are teaming up to host a new Western music festival.
The event will be held at Makuhari Messe for two days, on Saturday, January 4th and Sunday, January 5th, 2025.
Yes, it will be held on an unusual date, New Year’s Day next year, but we thought that a New Year’s festival at this time of year when many people are on holiday and have more flexible schedules would be a great idea, and that it could create a new, fun place where fans of Western music could come together.
One concern was whether overseas artists would come to Japan during the New Year period, but overseas management and artists were very welcoming of the event. It perfectly met their needs, wanting to come to Japan more often and perform in front of more Japanese audiences, not just for the once-a-year summer festival, and they have high expectations.
As for the venue, we will be using the second and third stages and food and beverage area of the end-of-year Japanese music festival COUNTDOWN JAPAN. Of the two stages, the GALAXY STAGE has a capacity of 20,000, and the COSMO STAGE has a capacity of 8,000. We are planning to make the most of the potential of the space at COUNTDOWN JAPAN, which has been highly praised for the environmental quality of its stage specs, flow, food and beverage area, video equipment, decorations, etc. As it is the middle of winter, we envisioned an indoor festival, and a convenient urban festival from the beginning, so in that sense we believe this is the perfect venue.

As you can see from the fact that they will not be using the main stage of COUNTDOWN JAPAN, this rockin’on sonic is not a huge festival like Fuji Rock or Summer Sonic (although the venue and stage are big enough). It is not a festival with world top rankers or stadium-class artists. It is the first Western music festival for Rockin’ On, so first of all, we are offering artists who are highly trusted by people who have been listening to Western music for a long time, and young artists who are supported by young listeners and highly regarded by the core group. At this point, the lineup is already very strong. Since the two stages will be deployed without overlapping and you can see all the artists, I think it will be a festival where you can have a very intense music experience throughout the day, different from a huge festival or a solo performance. Please look forward to it.

Apart from classical and EDM, I think there are very few rock music festivals held in the New Year around the world.
As a new challenge, Creativeman and Rockin’ On will join forces to make this the best festival ever.
Please come and visit us on January 4th and 5th, 2025.
