AMORPHIS will release its 15th studio album, “Borderland,” in Japan on September 24th, the first in three and a half years! From their second album, Tales From The Thousand Lakes in 1995, to their 2015 album Under The Red Cloud, this will be their first comeback in about 10 years at Victor Entertainment, which has released their works in Japan for 20 years.
AMORPHIS has continued to create many albums using the ancient ethnic epic “Karewara” that has been passed down in his homeland of Finland as the source of his creation. This work is one of them, and the lyrics are written by artist and poet Pekka Kainulainen, who has written lyrics for all of their works since 2007’s Silent Waters, and the content is based on the story of “Karewara.”
In addition, the last few works have continued to be covered with geometric patterns, but this work uses a beautiful painting by Dutch painter Maralt van Haastellen, who probably portrayed a swan floating in the black river flowing through the Tuonella, the underworld that appears in “Kalewara.”
And their first single, “Light And Shadow,” will be streamed today, June 6th. A lyric video for the song was also released. The sad melody and vocal lines of the keyboard make this a truly unique song.

Santeri Kallio (Key), who composed the song, said: “I threw my head in the closet and let the flow go. Not being trapped by opinions. I didn’t want to repeat the old stuff or imitate what I’d done in the past. When I heard the vocal part of Tomi (Joutsen) at the end of this song, I thought “Light And Shadow” was the first single on my new album! “
The producer of this work is Jacob Hansen, who is considered the pinnacle of the modern metal scene, which AMORPHIS has teamed up for the first time. I hope you will pay attention to that as well.
