KISHOW from GRANRODEO’s solo album “Midnight” will finally be released tomorrow, July 24th. KISHOW’s official comment has been released to mark the release!
When the release of “Midnight” was announced, many people were surprised that GRANRODEO’s KISHOW was releasing a solo album. To tell the truth, I was just as surprised when the staff suggested that I do a solo work (laughs). The trigger for the production was the 20th anniversary of GRANRODEO’s debut in 2025. The staff had a strong desire to make our milestone year exciting with a trilogy of e-ZUKA’s solo, KISHOW’s solo, and GRANRODEO’s new work, calling it “Road to G20th”, and they wanted to liven up that year, so they started the solo work.
The concept of the solo album is “quality adult POPS that you can’t hear in GRANRODEO.” It’s a pretty embarrassing phrase for me, but when production started and I saw the names of famous songmakers in the pop and rock worlds who readily agreed to provide songs, I thought, “I see!” I was excited to see what kind of songs I would be able to sing and what kind of album it would turn out to be.
The lead song “Every Single Night,” released in advance, is urban pop that is fitting for “quality pop for adults.” There are songs of various genres, such as “Midnight Circus,” which features an exciting big band; “Flower Tambourine Dance,” a glamorous song for which I wrote the lyrics for Imai Hisashi (BUCK-TICK) and which e-ZUKA arranged; and “Game,” a love song with English lyrics and an arrangement of musical accompaniment using only my voice. I enjoyed trying out a vocal style that was a little different from GRANRODEO. Towards the end of recording, I even felt a little sad that it was already over…
The title “Midnight” brings to mind the image of a man alone in his room at midnight, enjoying a journey of delusion. The music video for “Every Single Night” turned out exactly like that. I’m also a single, lazy person who likes to escape at night by drinking alcohol, reading books or watching movies while listening to music in my favorite place at home, so I can really relate to it.
With this album, I will be performing “KISHOW LIVE TOUR 2024 “MIDNIGHTCIRCUS”” in three cities, Osaka, Nagoya, and Tokyo, from August 10th. The support band for the tour is a group of talented young people who also participated in the performance of “let me dream of you”. I am also looking forward to my first solo tour, and how I can deliver songs with a different taste from GRANRODEO live as KISHOW of GRANRODEO. Maybe I will be able to perform some nostalgic songs or cover songs that can only be heard here? I am not very good at things like practice and training, but I will do my best to deliver “quality adult” songs! Please come and see us.
