The band Ningen Isu will celebrate its 35th anniversary since its debut in 2024. The first self-selected poetry collection by Shinji Washima (Gt/Vo), who writes the lyrics for many of Ningen Isu’s songs, will be published on October 21st!
It is composed of 108 poems selected from works from before their debut to their latest album “Shiki Soku Ze Kuu”, as well as essays including their own commentary. The essays also describe the struggles they have faced over the past 35 years since their debut, and can be read not only as an appreciation of the poems, but also as the “35-year history of the band Ningen Isu”.
The book consists of eight chapters: “Chapter 1/Before Debut”, “Chapter 2/1990-1993”, “Chapter 3/1995-1998”, “Chapter 4/1999-2003”, “Chapter 5/2004-2007”, “Chapter 6/2009-2011”, “Chapter 7/2013-2017”, and “Chapter 8/2018-2023”, and an essay is published at the beginning of each chapter (8 in total).
Ningen Isu has been described as “literary rock” due to the content of their lyrics, and has attracted a lot of literary attention, such as the tribute novel collection “Yoru no Yume Koso Makoto” (by Ito Jun, Nagashima Yu, and others) based on Ningen Isu songs. In the text, Wajima writes about the influence of Santoka, Miyazawa Kenji, Takahashi Shinkichi, Edogawa Ranpo, and others on his own poetry. This is a book that allows you to fully enjoy the unique world of Ningen Isu.
