To celebrate the 20th anniversary of GREEN DAY’s 2004 masterpiece “American Idiot,” a luxurious 6-disc deluxe edition “American Idiot 20th Anniversary” containing the original album, rare recordings, live recordings from the time, as well as two documentaries and footage of the BBC live performance, on 4 CDs and 2 Blu-rays, will be released overseas on October 25th, and the Japanese version, which is the domestic version of the imported version, will be released on November 20th!
Last year, in 2023, the 30th anniversary edition of their major debut album “Dookie” was released, and the following anniversary edition will be the 20th anniversary edition of their masterpiece “American Idiot”, which won two Grammy Awards for Best Record and Best Rock Album. The album, which includes many hits such as “Boulevard Of Broken Dreams”, “Holiday”, “Wake Me Up When September Ends”, “Jesus Of Suburbia”, and the title song “American Idiot”, was the band’s biggest commercial and critical success to date.
“American Idiot 20th Anniversary” is a hamburger box package that includes 4 CDs, 2 Blu-rays, a 48-page booklet with liner notes by Rob Cavallo and David Flick and many unpublished photos from the time, 3 types of pin badge sets, a sticker sheet, and a special patch. The Japanese version, which will be released in Japan on November 20th as an imported version, will include Japanese subtitles for the footage on the Blu-ray, a separate booklet with a complete translation of the English liner notes and lyrics/translations, and a sticker with a different design (planned) that will be delivered only to Japanese fans as additional bonuses!
The limited edition 20th anniversary deluxe box set includes not only the original album, but also a number of other precious recordings, such as the recording from March 19, 2005 at Makuhari Messe, which was included in “Bakuhatsu Live! – Tokyo Edition,” which will be a delight for Japanese fans. Among them are 15 unreleased demos, 15 live recordings from 2004 at Irving Plaza in New York (9 of which, including a cover of QUEEN’s “We Are The Champions,” are released for the first time), and 14 B-sides and bonus tracks that have already been released in various forms. The two Blu-ray discs included with this release also include the documentary “Heart Like A Hand Grenade,” a newly edited 110-minute documentary called “20 Years Of American Idiot,” and footage of their BBC appearances, including their “Mini Gig” on “Top Of The Pops” and “Later with Jools Holland.”
