Rap metal band BODY COUNT, led by rapper/actor Ice-T, released their first new album in four and a half years, “Merciless” on November 22nd. PINK FLOYD’s legendary guitarist David Gilmour appeared as a guest on the cover of the lead single, PINK FLOYD’s famous song “Comfortably Numb,” which has become a hot topic, and the music video for the song has now been released. David Gilmour also appears in the video, directed by Jay Scorsese, and his unmistakable guitar solo radically updates the song, backed by Ice-T’s raw and shocking new lyrics. The song and video maintain the original themes of separation and loneliness.
Ice-T said of the song, “For me, ‘Comfortably Numb’ is an introspective song, acknowledging that I’m getting older. I’m telling the younger generation that they have two choices: keep the flame burning or give up. It’s pointing out that while we’re trying to understand what’s going on, we’re in a place where we don’t have to face reality. We can just sit back with a flat screen TV and some popcorn and watch the world’s chaos as if it were a TV show. It doesn’t feel real until it appears right in front of you. I’m also a little numb. We all are like that.”
David Gilmour said, “Their song ‘Comfortably Numb’ is quite extreme, but the lyrics really shocked me. It’s amazing how a song I wrote nearly 50 years ago has been revived with this wonderful new approach. They made this song relevant again. Ice-T’s first contact was to get permission to use the song. But I thought I’d let you play too. I like the new lyrics and they talk about the world we live in now. Ice-T and BODY COUNT played in London recently, but unfortunately I couldn’t go. But if there’s an opportunity to play together again, I’ll jump at it.”
