Pianist Alice Sara Otto’s new album, “Field: Complete Works of Nocturne” will be released on Friday, February 7th!

Universal Music LLC (head office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Fujikura Nao / hereinafter referred to as Universal Music) will be releasing the album “Field: Nocturne Complete Works” by pianist Alice Sara Otto in February It will be on sale on Friday the 7th.

Alice Sara Otto is a pianist with roots in Germany and Japan. In 2008, he signed an exclusive contract with Deutsche Gramophone, and has released sophisticated works one after another, focusing on the songs of composers who were active in France.

This album is a recording of all 18 Nocturnes by John Field, an Irish composer who is said to have first composed the compositional format “Nocturne,” widely known for Chopin’s works, in the 19th century. The Field lived at the same time as Beethoven and was extremely successful as a performer, teacher and composer at the time, but after his death in 1837, his fame gradually faded. Otto focused on the field Nocturne that influenced many composers, including Chopin, and after conducting an exclusive pre-recording tour in Japan in September 2024 in Gunma, Aomori, Niigata and Kagoshima, he said. I tried to record the complete works in Berlin.

Regarding this work, Ott said, “It was a fruitful experience to tackle the Nocturne of the Field. I was deeply influenced by its beauty and grace, and while I was preparing for this recording, I would enrich my life. “I hope that recording this album will help us share the story of this historically important composer and encourage listeners to learn about the origins of Nocturne.” I’m bringing you the following.

The domestic version will be released in two formats: a regular version with high-quality MQA-UHQ specifications, and a limited edition first-time edition that includes a DVD containing four music videos. The music video is directed by tenor singer Andrew Staples.

To commemorate the release of this work, the music video for “Nocturne No. 2 in C minor” will be premiered on Deutsche Gramophone’s official YouTube channel from 10pm on Friday, February 7th, Japan time. Ott himself will also be participating in the live chat, which is currently on display at the premiere. Also, on Sunday, February 16th, Japan time, we will be holding a 50-minute video work called “NOCTURNES” where you can experience the various worldviews of Nocturne that Otto imagines. (Japanese title: “Alice = Sara Otto speaks and plays John Field “Nocturne Collection”) will be streamed on Stage Plus, a video and sound source distribution service in Gramophone, Germany.

Otto has announced that he will be coming to Japan in June 2025 and will be performing a programme mainly on the songs included in this work on his five-performance Japan tour nationwide, travelling to Sendai, Tokyo, Hyogo and Nagoya.
