Universal Music LLC (head office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Fujikura Nao / hereinafter referred to as Universal Music) will release the domestic CD of Kendrick Lamar’s latest album, “GNX,” on Friday, April 11th.
In 2012, he released his major debut album, “Good Kid, Mad City.” At the 67th Grammy Awards, he won the most five titles this year, including the main categories of Record of the Year and Song of the Year. Kendrick Lamar recorded the highest viewership in history at the halftime show at the 59th NFL Super Bowl held the other day. The sixth album in total, the latest album, “GNX,” will be releasing a domestic CD containing Japanese commentary and lyrics translations for all songs.
This album was released digitally in November last year without warning, and includes a total of 12 songs, including “squabble up” and “tv off” which were also performed at the 59th NFL Super Bowl halftime show, as well as “luther,” a song he co-starred with SZA. The songs included are also played by some of the world’s leading producers, including Mustard, the creator of the hot topic song “Not Like Us,” and Sounwave, who also worked on past works by Kendrick, as well as Jack Antonov, who has worked on hit songs by Taylor Swift and Sabrina Carpenter.
The film first appeared on the Billboard 200 in the US, and Kendrick achieved the great achievement of being number one in the fifth consecutive film. The album’s songs dominated the top five on the singles chart, making it the fourth in history, following The Beatles, Drake and Taylor Swift.
To commemorate the release of this work, Tower Records is holding a catalog campaign where you can get stickers when you purchase CDs or analog records from past albums. Three titles, an imported LP with a Japanese half-sized belt, will be sold, and the 84-page booklet “The Trials of Kendrick Lamar,” which is featured in the Japanese version of uDiscovermusic, a music website run by Universal Music, will be distributed for free for a limited time of 3,500 volumes.
