The EP "Sunshade" by Yuka, which includes the theme song for the TBS Friday drama "Laughing Matryoshka," will be available to stream from Friday, September 6th!

Universal Music LLC (headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Fujikura Hisashi; hereinafter referred to as “Universal Music”) will begin streaming Yuka’s EP “Sunshade” on Friday, September 6th.

Yuka is a singer-songwriter who is active both in Japan and overseas, and her song “Starry Night,” released last year, has been played over 400 million times digitally. She has also appeared at the 2024 SXSW Music Festival, one of the world’s largest music festivals, held in Austin, Texas, for two consecutive years.

This album contains five songs: the ballad “Wasuregusa,” which strongly conveys feelings for “someone who watches over you with unconditional love,” “Sunshade,” the theme song for the TBS Friday drama “Warau Matryoshka,” the single “Mou Ichido” released in May, “Tsurai Cry,” a song co-written with ONE OK ROCK’s Toru, and the pop track “Clouds,” with lyrics entirely in English.

“Sunshade” is a song written specifically for the drama, with lyrics by Yuka and music co-written with ONE OK ROCK guitarist Toru.

On the release date, September 6th, a YouTube Live will be held from 8pm, and on November 1st (Friday), a one-night-only solo live concert will be held at Daikanyama UNIT in Tokyo with a band set that will give a more live feel, allowing fans to get a better feel for the world of this work.

◾︎BIOGRAPHY

Born in Okinawa in 2000, he is a next-generation singer-songwriter. He spent his childhood in the United States and Switzerland. He picked up an acoustic guitar at the age of 15 and started writing original songs at the age of 17. He has always loved movies and books, and won a special prize at an audition to write a theme song for a movie he discovered around that time, which led him to start his current activities.

She made her major debut in June 2022 with the song “lullaby.”

“Starry Night,” released in February 2023, was selected as the theme song for the drama “Starry Night.” It topped various charts and exceeded 400 million digital plays. In May, they released their first digital EP “Alone Together” after their major debut.

She will release her first album “Brighter” in January 2024. Following last year, she will perform at SXSW in Texas, USA, and will also hold a solo concert in LA, attracting attention both in Japan and overseas. With a musical style that drifts between Western and Japanese music with a global sensibility, she will continue to evolve as she delivers her music.
