Universal Music LLC (headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Fujikura Hisashi; hereinafter referred to as “Universal Music”) has launched a special website for “functional music,” which has been gaining attention due to the spread of music streaming services.
“Functional Music” is literally “functional music”. We have released music selected for purposes such as “Sleep”, “Focus”, and “Work”. For the first release, we have selected music that pursues a worldview that allows you to feel a calm space with live performances of “Shakuhachi”, “Shamisen”, and “Koto”.
This time, focusing on yoga, which has a high affinity with functional music, we will be holding our first collaborative event with LAVA International, which operates LAVA, Japan’s largest hot yoga studio, on Friday, November 29th and Sunday, December 15th, 2024 at Ryukokuyama Danchu Temple in Kagurazaka, Tokyo.
This “Temple Yoga” event will feature a special guest, “Ishigaki Seizan,” a Japanese instrument player who is also a functional music artist, and a lesson from LAVA top instructor Sugawara Reimi. You can enjoy the fusion of yoga and the performance of the “Shakuhachi,” which is a very rare instrument in the world and is gaining attention as an instrument that produces hypersonic sounds*1.
In addition, the playlist “A Relaxing Playlist Perfect for Yoga Selection by LAVA,” selected by LAVA top instructor Reimi Sugawara, who will be appearing at the event, has also started distribution on major music streaming services. It is a playlist that many “Yogi” *2 will want to listen to.
*1 Hypersonic sound is a type of sound that contains ultra-high frequencies that change in complex ways beyond the upper limit of frequency audible to the human ear. It has been scientifically proven that it enhances our brain function and brings about positive effects on the mind and body (promotion of health, relaxation, formation of favorable impressions) called the hypersonic effect.
*2 A person who practices yoga.
