Universal Music LLC (headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Fujikura Hisashi; hereinafter referred to as “Universal Music”) will release Katy Perry’s new album “143” (pronounced one for three) on Friday, September 20th.
After releasing her second album, Teenage Dream, in 2010, Katy Perry became the second artist and only woman to achieve the historic feat of having five songs reach number one in the US from a single album, starting with California Girls, which topped the US singles chart for five consecutive weeks. At the MTV Video Music Awards (VMA) 2024 held in September, she received the Video Vanguard Award for Lifetime Achievement.
The title of her sixth album, “143,” comes from the English meaning of “I Love You” or “Miss You,” and is composed of the numbers 1, 4, and 3. Katy commented, “I aimed to create a bold, uplifting, and festive dance-pop album, and I want to convey the number 143, which is a symbolic representation of love, as a consistent message throughout the album.”
To celebrate the release of this album, a listening event will be held on the radio distribution app “Stationhead” from 8:00 p.m. on the day of the release (9/20). At the event, all songs from the album “143” will be aired at once, and fans will be able to enjoy Katy’s songs together with her in an online space where they can join in the chat in real time.

【biography】
Katy Perry is a singer-songwriter from California. In 2008, she made her debut with the album “One of the Boys,” which included hits such as “Kiss a Girl” and “Hot and Cold,” which topped the US singles chart for seven consecutive weeks. In 2010, she released her second album, “Teenage Dream,” led by “California Girls,” which topped the US singles chart for five consecutive weeks, the best-selling single in America. It reached number one on the US and UK album charts, and also topped the Oricon foreign music rankings in Japan. The album had five songs reach number one on the US pop chart, a first in the history of the US charts.
Her third album, Prism, released in 2013, also reached number one in the US and UK, and she released a string of hits, including “Roar” and “Dark Horse feat. Juicy J.” In 2015, she was selected to perform at the halftime show of the NFL Super Bowl, one of the most prestigious stages for an artist. In 2017, she released her fourth album, Witness, which again reached number one in the US. In 2024, she announced that she would be retiring from her position as a judge on the popular American audition program American Idol, where she had served for six years. This marks her complete comeback to the pop scene as a singer.
