Universal Music’s new apparel brand “U/MUSIC” is born!


Universal Music LLC (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO: Takashi Fujikura / hereinafter referred to as Universal Music) is a music artist’s asset managed by BRAVADO, the licensing and merchandising division of Universal Music Group. We are pleased to announce the launch of a new apparel brand “U/MUSIC” that utilizes. This brand produces limited collections that utilize BRAVADO’s contract artists such as THE ROLLING STONES and DAVID BOWIE, and their representative logos and artwork, and sells them wholesale to select shops. We will start with the 25th Spring/Summer collection on our own e-commerce site, concept store “UNIVERSAL MUSIC STORE HARAJUKU” and pop-up stores.

“U/MUSIC” is Universal Music’s new endeavor to deliver artists’ music and their creative expression to a wider audience. This is a fashion line that sublimates the motifs of artists and masterpieces into fashion.

“U/MUSIC” is a project that shines a light on music from fashion, which blends into people’s bodies in the same way as music in daily life, and increases its value interactively. This philosophy is different from tour items such as apparel and goods that emphasize a sense of unity and create an extraordinary gaiety, and is an attempt to incorporate the diverse creativity of artists into more everyday items. The core of the brand, the T-shirts, are patterned by Fumihito Maruyu of FUMITO GANRYU and have the feel of sophisticated daily wear.

The first collection has a rock theme and features approximately 10 artists such as The Who, PANTERA, SCORPIONS, DEF LEPPARD, and IMAGINE DRAGONS. We offer T-shirts (12,000 yen), long T-shirts (16,000 yen), sweatshirts (20,000 yen), etc. with jackets and artwork printed on them. (Price does not include tax)

“U/MUSIC” will continue to add new collections and develop items themed around even more artists and their artwork. We aim to create a new brand that connects artists and fans through highly compatible music and fashion.

Fumito Maruryu (Fumito Ganryu)

After graduating from Bunka Fashion Graduate University, joined Comme des Garçons in 2004.

Junya After working as a pattern maker at Watanabe Comme des Garçons, he started “GANRYU” within the same company in 2008.

In 2018, he launched his signature brand “FUMITO GANRYU” and debuted as an invited designer at Pitti Immagine Uomo.

From the following year, 2019, collections have been announced on the official Paris Collection schedule.
